This sweet story reminds us that stray animals deserve a second chance.

Most people shun the thought of getting a stray animal out of the streets and being their forever home. Understandably, taking care of one would entail extra effort to ensure they are healthy. But it should not be a reason to ignore them.

Jancis and Ashley notice this hyena-looking dog on the busy highway of Bali, Indonesia.

The dog looked lost and scared while vehicles passed by. They tried to lure her to the side of the street so they could get a good look at her.

When they finally got her to the curb, they were saddened by the dog’s condition.

They could see how badly injured she was, and it looked like she had mange and other skin diseases. The dog seemed friendly, but she just froze when they picked her up. She was in quite a bad condition, but Jancis and Ashley still thought of rescuing her.

They drove the dog to Mission Paws’ible to find the help they needed.

Mission Paws’ible is an organization that aims to help educate, support, and inspire individuals, rescuers, and other organizations to help stray animals and help find their forever home. They also help rehabilitate injured or sick strays until they’re perfectly healthy – just like this dog.

They named the dog Hilary Swank-y, a name they found fitting for her personality.

The moment they brought her to the Healing Center, she started showing some swag and spunk; hence, the name. Despite that, she still felt lost amid other dogs. It seemed like she didn’t know how to play.

Until the day came that Hilary found her voice.

She started barking and probably loved the sound of it. Since then, she has never stopped barking and has begun to grow out of her shell.

“She never got quieter, but she did get much healthier.”

That’s how they described Hilary. As days passed, her fur slowly grew back, and gone was her hyena-like look. She also learned how to play and bond with the other dogs.

The time finally came when she was healthy enough to be in her forever home.

They sent her to Canada, where her new mom was waiting for her. The moment she met her mom, Hilary was obsessed with her. She couldn’t contain her happiness to finally have a home filled with love.

Only her mom had the patience to deal with her spunk.

She was still very playful but learned how to listen and obey this time. Maybe some treats did the trick for her, but she well deserved it.

Success stories like Hilary’s will always remind us of our responsibility towards stray animals.

We may not be well-equipped on how to help them properly, but we can always call for rescue organizations to facilitate. In the end, what’s important is that stray animals will be in safe hands.
