“Nobody can fully understand the meaning of love unless he’s owned a dog. A dog can show you more honest affection with a flick of his tail than a man can gather through a lifetime of handshakes.” – Gene Hill

For a real pet owner, losing a dog is not just like losing a stuffed animal.

It’s heartbreaking to the point where the pain is too much to bear.

Not everyone has owned a dog but those who have can relate.

“Howard received the Academy Award for Best Director and Academy Award for Best Picture for A Beautiful Mind and was nominated again for the same awards for Frost/Nixon. In 2003, Howard was awarded the National Medal of Arts. He was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 2013. Howard has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions in the television and motion pictures industries.”

However, even the best ones experience the down-slopes in life.

Just recently, Howard took to Instagram to announce the sad passing of his beloved Collie, Cooper.

They have been together for 13 long years.

In an emotional social media post along with a picture with Cooper, the 67-year-old penned a heartfelt message to his “gone too soon” dog.

“Here I am with my new pup 13 years ago. Cooper! Today he passed peacefully. He grew up to be an outstanding part of our family who will be missed. I often praised Coop as he obediently walked alongside me. Cooper, I’d say, You’re a fine fine special kinda canine. And he was. RIP Cooper-Duper”

With all the bad things going on, losing someone very dear to your heart will only make things worse.

Thankfully, he still has other friends – both furry and not.

Howard still owns a Great Pyrenees dog named Puddin along with her pups who are now all grown-ups. His family is also there to help him cope.

They know it’s not going to be easy but they’re happy to tag along with Howard until his heart is completely healed.

His emotional farewell message to Cooper amassed comments from thousands of people who know how it feels to lose a dog.

According to Help Guide:

“While we all respond to loss differently, the level of grief you experience will often depend on factors such as your age and personality, the age of your pet, and the circumstances of their death. Generally, the more significant your pet was to you, the more intense the emotional pain you’ll feel.”

In Howard’s case, 13 years is a long time.

We’ll never know how deep his relationship was with Cooper.

What we’re certain of is that it’ll surely take some time for his heart to heal, but he has countless people to love and support him until it does.
