Animal Aid Unlimited has become well known in Udaipur, and so they now receive tons of calls about animals in need on their rescue hotline.

In April 2017, they received one of these calls. This call was about a stray dog who had been hit by a car. His back legs were paralyzed, and it was clear that he was in pain.

“We got a call on our rescue helpline to help a street dog in Udaipur, India, who had been hit by a car. When our rescuers arrived, we found him in the middle of an inner-city road with his back legs strangely stretched out in front of him, unable to stand or even move without great pain and difficulty,” the rescue group wrote in the description of their YouTube video.

Rescuers raced over to where the dog had been spotted, and they found him trying to scoot around on his front legs.

The rescuers carefully approached the scared dog and started petting him. Once the dog was a bit calmer, one of the rescuers attempted to put a blanket on him. The scared dog attempted to scoot away.

The rescuers were patient with the dog, and eventually, they were able to lift him up and put him in their car. They decided to name him Georgie.

When the rescuers got back to their shelter, one of Animal Aid Unlimited’s vets immediately began working on Georgie. The vet said Georgie had suffered trauma to his spine, and he had significant nerve damage. The vet wasn’t sure if the dog would ever walk again.

Still, the rescuers were determined to do everything they could to help Georgie. They brought in a physical therapist to help the pup.

The physical therapist diligently worked with the pup. Georgie was calm and quiet during his sessions—he seemed to realize the physical therapist was trying to help him.

Little by little, the dog’s toes started to curl, and eventually, he was able to stand. Then, after weeks of work, Georgie could finally walk again!

Now, Georgie is able to run around the shelter with all the other dogs. The formerly scared dog also loves people now, and he always runs up to the shelter volunteers and asks them to pet him. Georgie looks like a whole new dog!

“It doesn’t happen very often but sometimes, when nerve damage is caught early and intensive treatment and physical therapy is started right away, there can be reason to hope, and that’s what Georgie did. He hoped,” Animal Aid Unlimited wrote on Facebook.

When Georgie first arrived at Animal Aid Unlimited’s shelter, he was paralyzed and terrified of everyone and everything. Now, this pup can run as much as he wants, and he loves people! If you’d like to help Animal Aid Unlimited save more dogs like Georgie, consider donating to their organization.
