Some kind people do selfless acts to help others in a way they can. The only reward they get is a priceless “thank you” from the ones they helped. Rescue shelters have been doing the same selfless acts except for animals. Although animals lack the proper gestures to express their own feelings, some rescued animals showed gratitude towards their rescuers in their own sweet way.
This owl’s rescue story will leave you with happy tears
GiGi, a great horned owl, was caught up in an accident that left her suffering from severe head trauma, probably from a passing car. Her condition was worsening by the minute, but lucky for her, she was immediately rushed to Wild at Heart Rescue in Mississippi. Things were looking uncertain for her, especially when the rescuers noticed that she was underweight and was losing her appetite.
“This bird was one of the most critical we have ever taken care of,” Missy Dubuisson, the rescue’s founder, said. “The fact that this bird has lived is beyond comprehension.”
The rescuers could not believe how big Gigi was, as it was their first time treating a humongous bird like her.
But the team was up for the challenge.
The team thoroughly examined the gigantic bird and looked for angles on where to start with the treatment. They also received help from a certain man who Missy nicknamed the “birds of prey whisperer” — also known as Douglas “Doug” Pojeky. Doug has managed to rescue and take care of a lot of different bird breeds. His skill is definitely top-notch, and the team knew that he was going to be a valuable asset in helping Gigi.
The team witnessed how Doug whispered to the injured bird.
The rescuers worked alongside Doug and watched how he helped Gigi. Doug could easily call and gently persuade the big bird to eat and drink. Doug could even get her onto the table despite how reluctant the bird was. He’s the only one who could get Gigi out of the cage without forcing her. Missy was astounded, and she shared:
“In all my years of working with birds of prey, I have never seen someone with such a bond with these magnificent birds. I don’t think there’s anybody that can do what Doug does with these birds of prey. He’s got a knack.”
“I tell y’all, it is truly amazing,” Missy added. “We watch them come in literally dead and within 24 hours they’re turned around.”
Gigi realized that the people were doing their best to save her life.
Animals don’t usually trust humans, but as Gigi saw that Doug and the rest of the team were trying to save her life, she slowly opened up to them. She became affectionate to Doug, and she would even lean her head against his shoulder while her wings stretched out to hug him. They were really sweet to look at, and just looking at them is enough to leave you with tears.
The rescue team shared a video of GiGi’s miraculous recovery onto their Facebook page, garnering thousands of views and reactions on the internet. People witnessed the priceless bond that was formed between the rescued bird and its kind rescuer.
“They absolutely know him and trust him.” Missy said. “It’s the trust that you see in her face.”
What an adorable bond this pair has! We’re so grateful for the work that rescue teams do to save all of these beautiful animals.
