The Woes of Wilderness
Mother nature is always busy keeping us on our toes. One can never let their guard down when the name of the game is survival of the fittest. With so many things that can happen, it’s always best to remain alert and ready.
A recent video clip of a father and his son rescuing a baby calf from a sinkhole has gone viral. Normally one would think animals know how to prowl the lands best, but sometimes we all go through our rough patches and need assistance when we’re at our lowest (literally in this case).
The scene is that of a mother cow overlooking two men who are trying their best to extract her baby calf from a malevolent sinkhole that seemed to have sprouted out of nowhere. Clinging on for dear life, this calf’s only hope rests in the hands of these two brave lads.
It’s actually not very uncommon for cows, or in fact other animals, to get stuck inside sinkholes. As a matter of fact, sinkoles are common anywhere the land beneath the surface is limestone, carbonate rock, salt beds, or even rocks that can be naturally dissolved by groundwater going through them. Once the rocks erode, spaces start to develop and sinkholes get formed.
Sinkholes rarely happen, but when they strike, tragedy can occur
These sinkholes are typical of lowland regions like Florida, Texas, Alabama, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania. As the cows graze the grass, they can come about these sinkholes unexpectedly and suffer the consequences of not seeing them first. We could imagine that’s exactly what happened in this situation.
Fortunately for this mother cow, there were two dudes around ready to help. She could only sit anxiously and watch as her baby was at the mercy of time. After some persistent digging, the father started pulling out his soon who looked tired and breathless as he tried to make his way out of the ditch.
As we hold our breath in anticipation, we start seeing signs of life come out
The two men hold it together and are finally able to pull out the baby calf from the sinkhole! The incredible rescue proved fruitful and the baby calf can finally be reunited with her mom. From what it looks like, she was already a bit grown so it must’ve been a grueling process getting her out with only a shovel and a piece of rope.
Regardless, the duo did their best to secure the calf’s life and bring joy back to the Mama.
One of the lads carefully carried the calf back to the mom where they then trotted away together.
These moments are what makes life worth it at the end of the day. It’s the simple things like taking time out of your day to make a difference when it matters most. This father and son dynamic duo don’t wear capes, but they sure are certified heroes after this splendid act of valor.
