Our pets, no matter what the species, expect us to take care of them the moment you decide to bring them into your life.

One can only imagine the trauma that abandoned pets feel when they’re left to fend for themselves all of a sudden. They can’t seem to grasp the idea of being left behind because it’s something they wouldn’t do to their owners.

Update on Banjo, whose story has taken the nation by surprise! He is doing well. We are getting him up to date on his…

One such incident haunted a rescue worker from the Kings SPCA that she had to post an open letter to accompany the video of their rescue.

In the video, Banjo was seen in the middle of a featureless road. There seem to be some crops on either side of the road but the place is devoid of any source of food and water. There’s also no place forthe dog can go to for shelter.

And to make matters worse, dangers are slowly creeping up to the abandoned dog.

The scathing letter posted on the rescue organization’s Facebook page explained the situation and what Banjo would’ve felt through the entire ordeal:

“Dear The Callous owner of this dog,

Today we noticed a couple of emails from people that had noticed your dog that had been abandoned on 15th ave and Excelsior ave. After looking at date, your dog had been sitting there since Saturday morning at least. It was 3:00 pm today when we finally noticed the messages because we have been so busy. We decided to drive over and see if we could help. Sure enough there he was.

He waited for you.”

The letter, signed by Brooke, further revealed that Banjo didn’t leave the spot thinking that his owner will come back for him.

He was “being a good dog” for waiting. He stayed there because that’s the last place he saw his favorite person and that he doesn’t know how to go back home. Every car made him hopeful, and every car shattered those hopes too.

“He was so hungry that he was eating sticks. Nice people had stopped to drop off food but he was still so hungry and confused. But even with food sitting in front of him he knew he had to wait for you to come back.”

At first, they did their best to make Banjo comfortable with their presence. They stayed a good distance and offered him food. But they could hear coyotes moving about in the distance and it was getting dark awfully quick.

After hours of staying with Banjo, the dog finally came close to them and let them pet him.

He didn’t scurry off or ran away when touched and he even rolled on the ground to get some belly rubs.

The team was in total disbelief because someone can leave a dog so gentle and loyal. But they had to break it to Banjo that his owner will not be coming back.

“He howled the whole car ride to our shelter. He howled the most painful howl I have ever heard. It was the sound of his heartbreaking. He desperately tried to get back to the spot that you left him. He frantically checked every window then watched out the back window as we drove away. His howls lasted until he came to the driver seat and howled at me. As I reached over to pet his head he looked at me so confused and laid his head on my lap and whined as we pulled up to the shelter.”

Shelter manager Darlene Laboc told ABC News that the feelings of frustration and anger are something that they fight through every time.

They can’t help but feel hurt for dogs as loving as Banjo because they are betrayed by the people they trusted.

And while she says that their shelter takes good care of animals, it is still no place for a dog. Fortunately for Banjo, support poured in the moment the post went viral. People from all over inquired about the adoption process so hopefully, he finds a home that will truly love him.
