We all know people who look one way on the outside but on the inside are totally different. The phrase “just a big teddy bear” is a perfect example of this! Someone who is huge and maybe even a little intimidating is actually incredibly friendly and loving. This happens quite a bit and reminds us to look on the inside, not the outside. While this is true for humans, it can also be true for animals!

Where did that phrase come from?

The teddy bear was invented in the 20th century and was named after Teddy Roosevelt had mercy on a bear who was chained up and ordered to be shot. The idea of a teddy bear is quite a funny one! A huge, scary, animal who has the strength of 50 men, made into a small, cuddly form that a kid uses for comfort.

When you call someone a teddy bear, you are actually saying their looks may represent one thing, but who they are is another!

You know who often makes the perfect “teddy bears”? Dogs! They are incredibly fluffy and you could spend hours on the couch cuddling a big, poofy, dog. One dog, in particular, fits this bill wonderfully.

Tydus is an Alaskan Malamute who has a big body and a bigger heart.

In one of the cutest and poofiest videos ever, we get to meet Tydus, who is a huge dog who loves to sit on laps! Tydus is an Alaskan Malamute, meaning that he has a ton of fur and the charisma to match. The breed is known for its strength in working but also for their affection and loyalty. The AKC says:

When Tydus was a puppy, he was the smallest little ball of fluff you have ever seen.

As a puppy, Tydus was the epitome of cute. Fuzzy, small, and playful, he loved to play and be held. No matter the time of day, this little rascal would want to play and cuddle with his family.

As time went on, however, things began to change.

Tydus, like all puppies, started to grow. What happened, however, is that is never stopped! He was still the playful, energetic, and loving dog he always was, only a bit bigger. But then he got bigger… and bigger and bigger! Eventually, Tydus was so huge that he was as tall as his owner when he stood on his hind legs.

Even though Tydus is now a giant, he never stopped loving his family.

From puppy to adult, this is one dog who outgrew his puppy bed but never outgrew his family. The funny part is that Tydus sometimes forgets just how big he really is. As a breed that can top 100 lbs, he still hasn’t realized that he can’t sit in people’s laps like he used to! This results in some hilarious moments.

No matter how big he gets, he can’t help but remember his years as a puppy.

Sitting on laps and sleeping in the bed may be a bit more difficult for Tydus nowadays, but the same heart is there. He loves well and is always ready for a snuggle. Even though he may squish his owners with his love (and his body!), we are sure they wouldn’t have it any other way.
