Nobody wants to lose a pet. When a pet wanders off and gets itself lost, it can be incredibly scary. The animals in our life hold our hearts and we truly love them! When they get lost, all the possible scenarios run through our heads and we can’t help but be scared for them.

Whether it’s a dog or a bearded dragon, a lost pet is heartbreaking.

We often hear reports of lost dogs around us. A lost dog can be terrifying, but thankfully a lot of dogs have a sense of recall. They are also rather large and we can see them from a distance! For people who have smaller and less noticeable pets, it can be very hard to ever find them again.

One lost pet was never expected to be found.

Small pets are much harder to find if they escape. One family lost a very special pet and had no way to reach him. Their little pet is a guinea pig and he had gotten itself into a rather…stinky situation.

Living in West Prove Hill in Cincinnati, Ohio, one guinea pig was about to have the experience of a lifetime. When he escaped his home, he went to someplace that was familiar: the sewer pipes.

“Snowball escaped from his W. Price Hill home & thought a sewer was a good place to hang out,” the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati tweeted.

How were the rescuers to get the little rodent from the pipes?

As the pipes were too small for a human to crawl into, the team had to get creative. Deciding on a plan, they snapped to action. After getting a basketball, they slowly pushed the guinea pig to a place where they were able to snatch him up!

“MSD’s Jeff Greene & Reggie Gray came to the rescue,” the Tweet continued. “When Snowball wouldn’t budge from the pipe, they used a basketball to nudge him out. Now Snowball needs a bath.”

Things could have been a lot worse.

After some time, a basketball, and coaxing, the little rascal was finally saved from his stinky cave. Digging around in a sewer isn’t something that sounds fun at all! According to the rescuers, things could have been worse, though.

Thankfully, the worst-case scenario didn’t happen.

If there had been any rain that day, it was possible that the little rodent would have been swept away into the sewer system. Thankfully, the family didn’t have to think about that as it was a dry and sunny day.

Snowball may not have been as white as he normally was!

A few hours climbing around in a sewer is sure to put some stains on a white coat. Snowball probably needed some special attention when he got out, specifically a bath. The smell that the little puffball probably carried with him might cause you to throw him back!
