Human-animal interactions can be rather heartwarming.

We as humans have a lot in common with animals. For example, we both love social interactions! Well, for the most part. Although we could all use some “alone time,” it’s said that we thrive when engaging with others.

It’s easy to see why. Feeling a sense of belonging is perhaps, what we all want. Regardless of where that belonging comes from, as long as we feel valued, you can plan on someone sticking around.

Another thing that we have in common with animals is our reaction to a good song. It’s amazing how animals too react to music. Just as humans, music can make animals dance and even relax them.

Though our tastes in music vary, one thing is for sure; it’s hard to overcome a good lullaby. Whether it’s coming from a jewelry box or a parent’s lips, it’s a soothing experience. Before you know it, you’re sound asleep.

The founder of Elephant Nature Park in Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province, Northern Thailand, knows exactly how to put their elephants to bed.

Lek Chailert is the founder of the elephant sanctuary. Elephant Nature Park is a rescue and rehabilitation center where not only elephants are welcome, but other animals are as well, even cats and dogs!

Chailert is truly making a difference in the lives of these animals. Since the sanctuary opened in 1996, she has rescued over 200 elephants in and around Thailand.

She makes it her mission to rescue elephants that are in dire need of help. In a story published by CBS News, it’s been revealed that the elephants that she rescues have severe psychological trauma. Some are malnourished and others, blind. Some even arrive with broken bones.

Chailert rescues many of the elephants from the illegal lodging industry while others come from circuses. Though the elephants have been through difficult times, Chailert’s nature park is making a huge difference.

“When one day they start rolling in the mud, they start to enjoy trumpeting, swim on the river — and that is the day I have a tear … I have a tear of joy,” she said.

She’s made quite an impact on the lives of many elephants but the one that seems to have garnered much attention is her relationship with Faa Mai.

Faa Mai is the first elephant to be born free at the sanctuary. You can imagine, she’s one happy elephant. Maybe even a little spoiled too!

Faa Mai is ten-years-old now but in a viral video from May 2016, she was seven-years-old when she was being put to bed by lovely lullabies sung by Chailert. Trust us when we say, it’s adorable to see how comfortable and relaxed Faa Mai is upon hearing her voice.

Faa Mai even brings Chailert in closer as she starts to sing. It’s quite funny. She uses her trunk to send Chailert nearly flying into her chest. Don’t worry, Chailert is more than accustomed to an elephant’s trunk.

Chailert then takes control and guides Faa Mai to where she wants her to go – a covered area. Right on cue, Faa Mai begins to lie down. Chailert gently hits her with what looks like a shirt or towel to soothe her.

It’s working! Faa Mai curls her trunk in and begins to fall asleep. Chailert sits next to her and places her head onto hers. She even wraps her arms around her head as she relaxes and gives her a kiss.

It isn’t long before other elephants come over to listen in on the song. Faa Mai’s ears flap back and forth at the sound of Chailert’s voice as she drifts off into sleep.
