Hope For Paws is a rescue group in Los Angeles that fights to save animals who are homeless and suffering.

One case that’s really pulled on heartstrings involves a sick dog named Miley. Sadly, they learned she was living in a massive garbage pile and was in desperate need of help.

A rescuer from the team quickly jumped into action to try and save Miley. But what he discovered when he arrived at the site is quite disturbing.

It all started with an urgent phone call to Hope For Paws. Someone wanted to alert them of Miley’s deplorable living situation.

The rescuer brought a camera with him to the trash pile so he could record his findings. There, surrounded by disgusting stacks of debris, was poor Miley. Apparently, she’d been staying in the trash pile for many months and he could tell right away she had mange. However, that was only the beginning.

While some dogs would be aggressive, Miley barely moved when Hope For Paws arrived.

The man calmly approached the sick animal, who was lying in the filth. He extended his hand with some food, and fortunately, she accepted it. It’s anybody’s guess what she had been eating (if anything) trying to survive in her home of garbage.

After gaining some trust with Miley, the rescuer managed to very gently put a leash around her neck. He then petted the poor creature, who still, barely moved.

Eventually, the man worked to get Miley on her feet and moving so that he could rescue her from the trash pile. Although it appears to of been slightly challenging – he ends up getting her into his vehicle. The entire time the rescuer can be heard calling her, “good girl.”

Miley was taken to the veterinary clinic where she was evaluated and cared for.

On top of having mange, they also discovered she was suffering from bacterial infections, malnutrition, and parasites. The staff helped treat her wounds and gave her medicated baths. Overall though, Miley was wiped out.

In the video, they explain:

“Her body needed time to heal.”

Three days later, a sweet moment occurred. She gave a loving kiss to her rescuer.

According to the ASPCA, about 3.3 million canines enter animal shelters in the U.S. each year.

After two weeks of being cared for another dog was brought in to meet Miley.

Frankie had also been rescued, but he’d been found in a drainpipe and was frightened of everything. That’s when something beautiful happened. Miley took the tiny dog “under her wing.”

The two dogs, who had both come from horrible living situations, quickly formed a close friendship.

Watching them together is simply heart-melting as they both appear happy and to love each other.

Hope For Paws is a non-profit organization that rescues animals in need, provides them vet care, and then transfers them to adoption centers they’re partnered with. They also create videos of the rescues and share them on social media. Their YouTube channel alone has more than 4.6 million subscribers.

On the Hope For Paws website, they explain that their purpose for making the videos is to:

“…educate the public on the importance of companion animals in our society and inspire people to take action, support the cause, adopt animals, and help reduce euthanasia rates at shelters across the country.”
