While we can often place those people in the categories of “introvert” and “extrovert,” it isn’t always that easy. Despite the labels, one thing is true – we all need a little connection now again, especially during a pandemic.

For Potato, being around people isn’t just fun; it’s essential!

Potato is one of the most social dogs you will ever see. She can’t help but say hello to everyone.

She will quite literally spend hours of her day saying hello to anyone who crosses her path. If dogs had psychological personalities like humans (and they just might), Potato would be squarely in the extrovert camp.

When people meet Potato, they can’t help but fall in love with her personality.

Cee, Potato’s parent, knows how much people love her firsthand.

“Her personality is like a door greeter at a grocery store,” – The Dodo

Cee learned about Potato’s personality when she was just a puppy, around 6-months-old. During the day Potato would spend as much time as she could outside, hoping to interact with people!

She would sit in the yard and wait for people to come by and pet her.

We all have hobbies that we love. For Potato, that hobby was just sitting and waiting to make new friends whenever someone walked by the yard! Day after day she would sit and say hello to walkers, hoping for a quick pat on the head.

When the pandemic started, however, meeting people became a lot harder.

People walking by didn’t want to intrude on the family’s personal space and just stopped saying hello to Potato! It’s hard to know everyone’s preferences and most people just took the safe route of waving at Potato instead of walking over and petting her.

Potato’s family knew they had to do something to let everyone know it was ok for people to come say hi!

“We wanted to reassure people it was OK to pet her,” Cee said. “Plus, she was getting depressed from the sudden lack of attention. She started barking at people she knew who normally pet her who had stopped. And we figured it would be a nice way to be connected to our neighbors and to help people feel a little less lonely during this weird time.”

To make sure everyone knew, they made a laminated sign that had all the information on Potato you could ever want! After they posted the sign, people flocked to see her.

On really nice days, there is occasionally a line of people waiting to see Potato.

As far as dogs go, Potato is a celebrity!

People walk and stop by, hoping to say hello. For Potato, it’s a literal dream come true. If it’s a nice day outside, she will sit out there from 10 am until sunset – a good day’s work!
