Omg, those expressions he gives her are just too much. It's crazy how much this chipmunk understands.

Charlie and Borjana are kindred spirits.

Despite the fact that Charlie is a chipmunk and Borjana is a human woman.

The minute Borjana saw Charlie, she knew she wanted to be friends with him.

“Three years ago I was randomly in my parents’ backyard and I see this little thing just going back and forth,” she tells The Dodo. “It took me about a week and a half for me to actually approach him. He was very hesitant at first.”

But eventually, Charlie couldn’t resist Borjana’s cooing and decided to check her out.

It wasn’t long before he started recognizing the name she had given him and would come running every time she would call for him.

“I would just keep on trying and trying and trying and all of a sudden it became really natural. It’s really cool,” Borjana explains.

Borjana started to realize that she and Charlie had a lot more in common than you might think.

“The weirdest thing I’ve know is the beauty mark. Mine is on the left side, his is on the right. That is super weird! I’ve never seen a chipmunk with a beauty mark.”

Charlie and Borjana got so close that Charlie would eat nuts right out of her hand. Charlie became extremely fond of Borjana. Maybe even a little too fond of her.

That’s because Charlie doesn’t like other chipmunks coming around his girl.

“Now he has a new friend, I call him Buddy. He got comfortable because Charlie was there,” Borjana explains.

Charlie is actually really jealous. Charlie just got mad at me for feeding another chipmunk.”

The chipmunk literally threw a hissy fit and refused to take any nuts from Borjana after she fed Buddy.

“He was sitting looking at me like he was about to cry. That’s so weird to see in a chipmunk. He would not take it. He was just like, ‘I can’t believe you did that to me!’ you know.”

Not only is Charlie jealous but he’s super smart.

He somehow learned English and follows Borjana’s commands.

When she says “freeze” he stops in his tracks, when she says “go” he’ll continue eating or going about his business.

It’s actually pretty amazing to see. The most amazing thing to see is when she tells him to make a smiley face and he grabs the peanut and holds it up to his face so it looks like a smile.

“It’s crazy how much he understands. I don’t know if he specifically understands all the words I’m staying,” Borjana explains.

Apparently, chipmunks are known to be trainable animals.

“Apart from their natural antics, they can also be trained to do more tricks! It is best to teach a chipmunk tricks while it is still very young. Older chipmunks can be difficult to train as they might have already become set in their ways,” HowToDoThings.com explains.

But Borjana mostly just likes spending time with Charlie.

“He would just sometimes sit next to me. Just enjoy nature, enjoy my own company. He will not even take peanuts. It’s moments like those that are so touching to me. I don’t think I can explain it further just how much that moment really means to me and I’m sure to him as well,” she says.
