June is a sweet blind kitten who doesn’t realize there’s anything different about her.

A group of good Samaritans found the little kitten wandering around Cape Town, South Africa. She was sick and malnourished, and her mom was nowhere in sight.

An animal rescue group called Domestic Animal Rescue Group (DARG), took the little kitten into their shelter and gave her food and medicine. Soon, the kitten was feeling better, and she ran around the shelter’s hallways without a care in the world.

“She obviously has no understanding or idea that she was any different than any of the other cats,” DARG volunteer Holly Gilbert-Jones told The Dodo. “She would be zooming up and down the hallway.”

Gilbert-Jones decided to foster June, and she quickly fell in love with the energetic kitten. The kitten radiated love and happiness, and Gilbert-Jones knew she would make the perfect pet.

“There’s something about her,” Gilbert-Jones said. “It’s like she radiates this joyful energy from her. Everyone who sees her just kind of falls in love. She has this gift of winning people over.”

A couple named Andrew Duff and Rebecca Warner saw a Facebook post about June on DARG’s Facebook page, and they immediately fell in love with the kitten. They decided right then and there that they wanted to adopt her.

The couple drove over to Gilbert-Jones’ house to meet June. June was so excited to get to know her new parents!

While June loved both of her parents, she grew particularly close with Duff. She didn’t want to stop hugging him—and luckily for her, Duff was happy to keep holding her.

“She just curled into his neck and stayed there,” Warner said. “On the way home, I got a little tag that said ‘Daddy’s Girl’ because I realized, ‘Well, that’s it. He’s become hers.’”

June quickly settled into her new house. She met her new cat siblings, Leia and Leeloo. At first, there was a bit of sibling rivalry between the three cats.

“We were a little bit worried about June integrating with them, and the first couple of weeks, there was a lot of hissing and chaos,” Duff said.

Thankfully, after a few weeks, all three cats started to get along. Now, these cat siblings are as close as can be!

June still loves snuggling with her dad more than anything else in the world. Anytime he’s relaxing on the couch, she’ll climb on his lap and curl up, purring happily.

Duff and Warner also regularly take June on walks—June loves exploring her neighborhood, and she has an incredible sense of hearing.

“When we take her for walks, it’s amazing to see her react to sounds,” Duff added. “She’ll hear a bee around the flowers, and she’ll leap at it. Or she’ll hear birds and suddenly turn.”
