Could you even imagine?

Waking up in the middle of the night is unsettling. For one thing, your sleep is getting disturbed, and if you suffer from any sleep problems, falling back asleep might be another trial in itself.

But when the reason you woke up in the middle of the night is because of a loud noise… that just adds stress considering all the possibilities that could have caused it.

Bonnie Moriarty, a woman from Oklahoma, was suddenly awoken from her sleep when she was startled by a loud noise.

“I’d say around 4, 4:15, all of a sudden I hear, it sounded like a cat fight almost,” Bonnie shared with FOX 23.

Bonnie, the owner of a cat and a Miniature Schnauzer dog, just assumed it was her pets fighting. But as she became further awake and checked her bedroom, she was greeted with something else entirely.

“I woke up and a cat and coyote came running into my room,” she said. “It’s still dark.”

To paint the picture: It’s around 4 in the morning, you’re suddenly stirred awake from a noise, and you find a wild animal not only inside your house but in your bedroom. What would you do?

For most of us, this is a scenario we would not even think about because it probably wouldn’t happen. But in Bonnie’s case, that unlikely scenario came true.

So doing what most of us would do, she grabbed a golf club for protection, as seen in the photo below.

Why the golf club? Because at the time, she only had herself to rely on.

“My husband was out of town and so my poor kids are upstairs and I’m screaming,” she explained.

Bonnie’s miniature schnauzer came barking to the rescue, but thankfully the coyote remained timid in the corner of the bedroom.

With the coyote remaining in the corner of her bedroom, Bonnie phoned the Bixby police who arrived to help her safely remove the coyote.

“We shut the bedroom door and they came with, I’m sure there’s a term for it, the stick with the little loop, so I had three policemen in my bedroom trying to get the coyote out,” she said.

Bixby police were able to get the coyote back outside without any incident.

But for the question we might all be wondering – how did the coyote get into her house in the first place?

Bonnie thinks that the coyote could have entered from her glass backdoor while chasing her cat.

“He somehow just lunged at the door and the door opened,” she said.

The game wardens who retrieved the wild coyote confirmed it was a coyote that entered Bonnie’s home. They also said it’s not unusual for coyotes to chase prey.

However, it was the first time the warden had ever heard of a coyote chasing their prey into a home.

Thankfully, Bonnie, her kids and her pets were safe in this potentially dangerous situation.

Let this be a cautionary tale for any pet owners in a known coyote area – be sure your windows and patio doors are securely shut lest a wild coyote trespasses into your home!
