Kiara Alamo was eating dinner at an outdoor restaurant in Luquillo, Puerto Rico when she spotted a startling sight. A street dog was huddled in the corner of a restaurant, watching people come and go. The dog was very skinny, and there seemed to be something wrong with his leg.
Alamo is a huge dog lover, and she knew she wanted to do something to help this poor pup.
Alamo was especially worried because the restaurant was near a busy highway. If the dog ran across the street without looking, it could be disastrous.
Alamo’s mom, who was with her at the restaurant, told Alamo she should take the dog home. That was all Alamo needed to hear. She and her mom coaxed the scared dog into their car and took him to their house. She named him Uto.
The next morning, Uto was still limping badly, so Alamo and her family took him to the vet.
The vet said if Uto was ever going to walk without pain, he needed an operation. Alamo desperately wanted to help this little dog get better, so she quickly agreed.
Uto went for the operation, and it went very well! Soon, Uto had healed and was walking around with so trouble at all.
Over the next few months, Uto and Alamo bonded. Alamo had planned to foster Uto and then adopt him out, but she fell in love with him. He was part of her family, and she couldn’t imagine losing him. So, she officially adopted him!
“My plan always was [to] put him in adoption and find him a forever home, but after months of therapy on his leg I felt so much love [for him],” Alamo told The Dodo. “He was like an angel. I couldn’t put him up for adoption with that little face.”
A year later, Uto is doing great!
The dog has gained weight and his fur has grown back in. He loves going on adventures with his mom around Luquillo, and he especially likes going to the dog park. The pup is a bit skittish around people, but he loves being with other dogs. Every dog is his new best friend!
Alamo started an Instagram page where she shares Uto’s daily adventures.
She shares lots of photos and videos of Uto at the dog park. She also shares cute pictures of Uto hanging out at home. In almost every picture, Uto has a huge smile on his face. It’s amazing to see how much this dog has changed in just a year!
When Alamo found Uto, he was scared and in pain. Now, the pup has transformed into a happy creature with a family who loves him more than anything! If you’d like to see more cute photos and videos of Uto, check out his Instagram page.
