A mother will fight like a whirlwind if it’s her child that’s in danger. In modern times, that rarely happens. Still, when a mother’s protective instinct is called to action, you don’t want to be in the way.

An incredible example of this happened recently when a mother fought off a mountain lion to save her son.

A 5-year-old boy was hanging around his neighborhood in Calabasas when the unthinkable happened. He was playing near a tree outside his home when the lion lept from the side and started dragging him away.

Dragging him 45 yards, it was starting to look grim for the little boy.

As you could imagine, the screams of the boy finally got the attention of the people in the house.

What she did next is something straight out of a superhero movie.

The mom ran grom her house, spotted the lion, and sprinted after it.

Once she got there, she didn’t hesitate to attack it. Swinging and hitting it over and over, she did her best to free her son.

She ran outside and immediately started striking and punching at the lion and managed to fend the lion off her son,”

After a few swings, she was able to get the animal to let go of her son.

The incredible scene begs the question: Why?

With a little digging, it all started to make sense. The boy, a small 5-year-old, was the perfect target for a mountain lion cub. The lion that attacked him wasn’t full-grown and was still practicing how to hunt! Experts even went to far as to call it a kitten, but that might be a stretch.

The cub was born to P54 and was practicing.

Experts track mountain lion movement to help keep tabs on the population and they were able to make a bit more sense of the situation. If it would have been a full-sized animal, things would have been a LOT worse.

With only minor injuries, the boy will have quite the story to tell when he’s older.

His neck, head, and upper torse were injured, but nothing life-threatening. Thankfully, the mother’s heroics were enough to deter the cub.

“This mom’s an absolute hero who saved her son’s life, there’s no question about it.”

While the likelihood of even seeing a mountain lion, let alone being attacked by one, are very low, experts gave some tips for everyone.

Experts also said if you encounter a mountain lion, do not turn and run away. Instead, “try to make yourself look bigger than you are and give it space to move on,” said Ana Beatriz Cholo

If that doesn’t work, throw some objects and try to deter it. If that doesn’t work, we just learned that going full-on “mom mode” is a good defense!
