Because what else is there to do during lockdown?

With lockdown forcing us all into staying at home, many people have suddenly found themselves with a lot more time on their hands. For dog owners, we’re sure that your dog has been loving all of this extra time they get to spend with you.

But one dog mom pushed the boat out even further, going above and beyond to make sure that her pooches would have a lockdown that they would truly never forget.

Meet Ginger and Fergie, two Yorkshire terriers who live with their owner Diane.

When Diane’s daughter Kennedi offered to install a window seat into the spare room of Diane’s house as a little lockdown project, Diane immediately agreed. However, when Kennedi began to plan out the building process, an idea popped into her head. Diane said on Twitter:

‘Since Kennedi was redecorating the bonus room, I said to myself, “Diane (that’s what I call myself), you need a window seat for that room.” So I built one with storage and 2 built in dog houses.’

Kennedi began working on the window seat (AKA the doggie mansion) right away, and she documented the process on her now-viral tweet.

Both mom and daughter shared the workload between them, and of course, the two pooches had to supervise! They wanted to make sure that their mansion was going to be finished to the highest standard. Diane wrote:

‘I was going to sneak upstairs to see how Kennedi’s redecorating of her game room/bonus room was coming along but Ginger and Fergie were standing guard at the top of the stairs.’

First, the mom and daughter built the frame of the mansion. Of course, Ginger and Fergie had to explore the building site for quality checking purposes.

Next up, it was time to paint the outside walls. The dogs had to be kept away from the structure whilst the paint dried, and we bet they didn’t like this part! On day 9, the inside walls were painted while the inside flooring was installed, and the outside walls were also put up and painted. It was beginning to look like a real house!

Kennedi and her mom finished off by putting a new carpet down in the spare room, and by day 15, the house was complete! Now it was time for the finishing touches. Diane had a few ideas about the interior decor, saying:

’15 days later, it’s complete and now I have to make the seat cover for the seat and Kennedi will hang pics inside.’ She added: ‘A ceiling light and a picture has been added to each house. Up next, we have to find a tiny couch for each.’

The end result looks truly amazing, and the people of Twitter seemed to agree!

The post went instantly viral with 12.4K likes and 2K retweets, and people commented about how lucky the two dogs were. We have to say, the fact that these pampered pooches have photos of themselves inside their mini-mansion is one of our favorite things.
We love this mansion so much, we wish someone would come and build one for our own dog! Besides, it doubles as a window seat and a storage space, so we think the idea is genius. What a great way to spend lockdown!
