The dog had been found wandering on the streets of Seattle, and she was taken in by a local rescue. The woman hadn’t planned to adopt a special needs dog—she’d never even been around special need dogs before. But still, she found herself drawn to Abi.

The woman decided to adopt Abi. She quickly learned that Abi was an adventurous little dog who loved running around and playing!

Abi and her mom also love hiking together. At first, Abi’s mom was worried about letting the pup off-leash, but then she realized how amazing Abi was at navigating using her nose and ears. Abi was a smart dog who was capable of anything!

Abi and her mom were happy together, and Abi’s mom didn’t plan on adopting any more dogs. But then, fate intervened.

In 2015, Abi’s mom got a text from her brother in Michigan. He told her he’d seen a blind Labrador Retriever in a shelter, and he asked if she wanted to take him in. Abi’s mom knew it would be a challenge to get the dog from Michigan to the West Coast, but once she saw photos of him, she decided she wanted to go for it.

Abi’s mom and her family drove for four days to get the dog, Duke. But it was worth it once Abi’s mom saw how well he fit into her family.

Duke is very relaxed and chill, which meshes well with Abi’s more high-energy personality. Duke loves sleeping more than anything else—whenever he’s in the car, he instantly falls asleep!

Duke also loves Abi, and the two quickly bonded. Now, they’re inseparable!

Abi’s mom has now had her dogs for over three years, and their bond is as strong as ever. Both dogs love hiking with their mom, and they’re always up for new adventures. Duke is also a huge fan of the water—while Abi wanders around on the shore, Duke will dunk his head in the water over and over again.
