Tourist’s vacation becomes rescue mission when he sees dog abandoned in the snow for days

March 20th, 2020

When animal lovers see a furry friend in pain or danger, they feel sympathy and naturally want to help. Sadly, not everyone feels the same way.

Some people show a total lack of respect, care, and empathy with other creatures, like one Romanian hotel owner who kept chasing away a stray dog and telling his employees not to feed her, hoping she’d go away or even die.

Luckily, a tourist in the area saw the dog, later named Indy, and decided to do everything in his power to help her!

Poor Indy would curl up in the snow outside the hotel, trying to feel a little bit of the sun’s warmth on her fur each day. She was cold, lonely, and unloved until this kindhearted stranger stepped into his life.

The man probably wasn’t planning for his vacation to turn into a rescue mission, but when he saw Indy like that, he just couldn’t help himself.

He knew he might be her only hope of survival, so he started buying dog food from local stores and feeding her on a daily basis.

The food was clearly a big boost for the poor dog, but in an area where night time temperatures often drop to -4°F, she needed more than food. She needed shelter, warmth, and a family of her own.

Sadly, the man couldn’t adopt her as he already had several adopted animals back home and just didn’t have the space for another big dog, but he made a solemn vow to help her story have a happy ending.

He started getting in touch with local animal rescue organizations, including one called Howl of a Dog. In the meantime, to make Indy’s life a little more comfortable, he bought her a carry case with a warm blanket inside.

The rescue workers at Howl of a Dog said they’d be happy to help, but the hotel was hundreds of miles away.

Incredibly, the kind man offered to drive Indy all that distance, just to give her a chance of happiness and a better life.

It took some effort, but he eventually managed to get Indy into the carry crate and load her into his car.

He then drove all the way across Romania with Indy, dropping her off with the kind folks of Howl of a Dog.

There, she was immediately checked over by a vet, who said that she was about 5 years old.

She was spayed and had to undergo some tests and scans, but the vet concluded that she was more or less healthy.

And since then, she’s been living at the Howl of a Dog sanctuary, slowly adjusting to her new life.

The workers looking after Indy say she’s quite a shy and nervous dog. It seems that nobody has ever played with her before, as she doesn’t really know what to do with toys, but she’s still very affectionate and friendly.

She’s met some other dogs at the shelter too and got along well with them. And now, it’s simply a waiting game until the shelter finds someone to adopt her. They’re appealing to potential owners from all over the world and can help to arrange shipping to an international owner. Check out the video below to learn more!
