This is a story about this 15-year-old boy and his cow after a photo of them went viral over social media. His name is Mitchell Miner and Audri is the name of his beautiful cow. These two participated in the Iowa State Fair’s youth dairy cattle show and they worked so hard preparing for that day.

Miner stayed up until 3 am many nights as he prepared for their show at the state fair. The preparation went on for months and it was Miner’s job to bath and walk Audri just before the day of the competition.

Unfortunately, Miner and Audri went back home with a loss.

The day of the competition eventually came and there went Miner and his trusty cow, trotting towards their so-sought win. However, as the results came back, they were ranked fifth place out of seven contestants. Despite their efforts, they were not able to take the top-most spot. Although, Miner still went back home to his family with satisfaction and a huge smile on his face.

Exhausted, they snoozed together on top of a stack of hay.

After such a tiring day, Miner brought Audri back to the barn house. However, he did not anticipate that the exhaustion would get to him. Shortly after, his father, Jeremy Miner came looking for his son and when he peeked into the barn house, he saw the most wholesome sight he had ever seen – his son napping beside Audri.

Jeremy then grabbed his phone, took the photo, and uploaded it into the internet the next day with a caption saying, “Our son Mitchell and his heifer after showing yesterday.” Even if they lost the competition, they still won in their own way.

After just a day, the photo received a lot of attention from various people, and even YouTubers and it racked up 15,000 likes.

As the fame of the little boy and his cow spread like fire, news media companies came up to them to know their story.

“She likes to lay down quite a bit,” Mitchell told The Des Moines Register. “I don’t really understand the bond with my animal either. She just enjoys my company.”

However, Mitchell’s mother, Laura, shared her own perspective of how Audri and her son became so close.

She said, “I think it’s just when you spend that much time with them, they get really comfortable with you.”

Both Laura and Jeremy grew up living on the farm, but they were the first to break the tradition.

Despite living a new life outside the farm with their kids, they never forgot how great it was living on a farm; in fact, they upheld those farm-values in the family so that their kids would have a glimpse of what it is like on the farm.

“We learned a lot from the farm,” Jeremy told CBS News during an interview. “We have those values instilled in us and we are trying to do what we can to preserve that.”
