Nothing feels as good as freedom. No matter how big an animal’s cage is, it is only natural to want to be free. One little panda was determined to break out of his cage at any cost – and his attempts are totally adorable.
The giant panda population of Chengdu, China, is on the decline. In fact, there are less than 2,000 of the magnificent creatures currently living in the wild. The Giant Panda Research Base is working on restoring the population through breeding and research. Recently, the center took in a new group of baby pandas.
These cuddly creatures love to have fun and play – all except for one. While his siblings entertain themselves with a plastic box located in the middle of the crib, this panda has other plans.
Three of the adorable pandas excitedly crawl over the plastic box. They play games with it, pushing it back and forth. The whole thing is very exciting, or at least they think so. Their fourth friend is not entertained.
Instead, he has his sights set on freedom. The walls of the wooden crib are only a few feet high; beyond that small barrier lies the open world. Sure, it is just the inside of a lab, but to the little panda this space represents freedom. Instead of being confined to an area with his fellow baby pandas, he will be free to roam the halls and explore until his heart is content.
As the worker turns away to tend to her other responsibilities, this curious little guy makes a break for it. He expertly begins to climb the walls of the crib. He pulls himself up with two weak arms, then swings one leg over the side of the barrier. He is almost in the clear! Just as the panda believes he is about to achieve freedom, the worker returns.
The panda scoots and pulls himself along the top of the wooden wall, but it is of no use. As soon as the worker sees him she picks him up and places him back on the floor of the crib. It turns out his daring adventure won’t be so easy, after all.
This panda is discouraged, but he refuses to give up hope. As soon as the worker shifts her gaze, he is back at it. The panda turns right around and grabs the bits of the crib that are closest to him. He tries to climb again, perhaps realizing how difficult the process of escaping really is.
After a few attempts, the panda realizes he is better off climbing up near the corner again. He shuffles over and tries the same technique as before. This time he manages to lift up the second leg. Just as he is a swing from freedom, the worker comes back over to crush his dreams.
She pushes the panda back down into the crib, but this will not be his last attempt. Barely a moment has gone by before the little guy is scaling the walls a third time. He wants his freedom, and he wants it NOW!
This furry panda tries again and again to break out of his cage, and each time his plans are foiled by the worker in the room. While it seems that he may never escape, his courageous attempts are too adorable to look away from. This fluffy panda looks so cute climbing up the crib – he is sure to make your heart melt from cuteness overload.
The panda’s love of climbing makes him troublesome now, but soon he will be glad he practiced such an essential survival skill. Out in the wild pandas face many threats, such as leopards and jackals. Climbing up tall trees will be his primary method of survival. Unlike his siblings, this audacious panda will have mastered the skills he needs to escape vicious predators.
Pandas are just about the cutest things in the world, but they can also be quite a nuisance to the workers who must watch over them. These adorable creatures constantly keep us smiling with their eccentric exploits. The people who work with them must always be alert.
