Orcas are the biggest members of the family of dolphins. This marine mammal is actually huge.

According to Seaworld Parks & Entertainment, the biggest recorded male orca “was 9.8 m (32 ft.) in length and weighed 10,000 kg (22,000 lbs.)” While the largest female killer whale was 8.5 m (28 ft.) while its weight was 7,500 kg (16,500 lbs.).

No wonder why the otter was extremely terrified.

And a man witnessed the whole moment and thankfully, the man namely John Dornellas was able to record it. He’s working with Coldwater Alaska – which is an exploration company providing boat trips in the area.

” I have to say, this is not how I imagined how my morning would start,” he wrote on his Instagram post.

He was in Halibut Cove, Alaska when the petrifying moment happened.

The first thing that caught his attention was the presence of an orca that was close to his boat.

He then expressed his fascination over it. But he was surprised when there was another creature roaming around his boat.

It turns out that the otter was trying to escape the killer whale and it thought that the boat would save him from that large creature.

“What an unreal experience. We took the engines out of gear about two hundred yards off and watched an otter come swimming full speed at my boat, the orca chasing behind.”

The otter tried its best so it could jump into the boat.

It was doing it for its safety and to be away from the scary whale. Fortunately, the otter was able to safely leap over the boat.

A few moments later, the orca was spotted around the boat. John couldn’t hide his astonishment and at the same, he knew that the otter needed help so he was willing to pay attention to it.

When you watch the video, you would hear him saying:

“Oh dude, that poor otter wants to get the heck out of the water. Oh my gosh, oh this poor dude.”

The frantic otter tried to go back to the water only to find out that the orca was still there.

The killer whale tried to run after it a few times. And you would feel how scared the otter was.

Nevertheless, John’s boat was still there to rescue the otter anytime.

So the otter went back up to the boat. It was a good thing the otter left John’s boat when it was already far from the orca.

John’s fellow captain, who is Chantrelle Major, was also there and filmed how the orca was around John’s boat.

It was truly a heart-pounding moment. On the other hand, it’s relieving to think that the otter was able to escape that terrifying moment. For sure, it was grateful to John and his boat.

A lot of people have seen it as the clip was posted on social media. On YouTube, it has gained over 19.3 million views!
