Blossom and Minnow have a lot in common, yet they couldn’t be more different.
They were both saved from meat farms.
Yet Blossom is a turkey and Minnow is a dog. Minnow the dog was saved from a dog meat farm in Seoul South, Korea.
Blossom was rescued from a factory farm in West Virginia when she was just 5-years-old.
She was found hiding from being transported to the “grow house” where she would be fattened up.
A farm worker took pity on her and handed her over to a local animal rescue group.
Blossom spent her first few days of freedom in Abbie Hubbard’s office at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
“She was kind of terrified and had no idea what was going on,” Hubbard told The Dodo.
So Hubbard decided she would bring Blossom home with her to see if it brought the pretty white feathered turkey some comfort.
Blossom immediately fell into her own element and confidently roamed the house.
That’s when she met her new BFF, Minnow.
“Minnow led her over to her dog bed and Blossom hopped on the bed and just started getting comfortable and she just seemed perfectly happy. It was like she knew she was home.”
Minnow stuck by Blossom’s side and Blossom really took comfort in her new furry four-legged friend.
“She [Minnow] was her [Blossom’s] safe person,” Hubbard explained. “They’re two peas in a pod.”
Hubbard started getting the feeling that Blossom might be better off on a farm than in an apartment.
She should probably have some other turkey friends.
So Hubbard took Blossom to a sanctuary where she could live the farm life with other turkeys.
“She got really sad and depressed and just stood in one place so she was there for all of three days,” Hubbard explains. “She just wanted to be at home so I wound up bringing her back here and then she jumped up on the couch and settled down and started watching TV with my dog and I and shared some pumpkin pie with us. It was like ‘Thank you, I’m home that’s all I need.'”
Now Minnow and Blossom are closer than ever.
“We get up and we’ll hang out in the backyard,” Hubbard said. “They like to poke around, Blossom will look for bugs they both like to eat grass. They both really love to go hiking.”
Hubbard says that being outside is comforting for Minnow and Blossom. But when it’s time to come inside, they hop up on their couch and snuggle together. They’ve been known to get into squabbles, but they always make up.

That’s when Blossom needs some alone time to lay her eggs.
But even then, Minnow will try to sneak in and stay close to her bestie and move into Blossom’s egg-laying space.
“Minnow is just kind of like waiting for her to come back and be her playmate,” says Hubbard. “Minnow and I were definitely family before Blossom came but there was just this missing piece. Blossom was that. Having them told me that love is universal.”
