Have you ever seen a stray animal at a gas station or public park? Sometimes they can look unfriendly or avoid human contact, but I often find myself wishing that they could just come home with me. Well, one woman does exactly that, and she recently helped to rescue a dog who seemed like she would never let people touch her.

This dog had been living at a gas station for three years.

She was very afraid of humans. So, although she lived around the gas station, she would never let anyone pet her or get close to her. The gas station employees report watching her give birth to a new litter of puppies every year. These puppies would either be taken in by people stopping for gas, or tragically, get run over by drivers accidentally.

Many people saw her living at the gas station, but she refused to be touched by anyone.

One of the rescuers knew the dog and had visited her many times, even bringing her food and water. But, the dog would refuse to get close to her. In a video, the rescuers say:

“No one has ever touched the dog. She does not trust people.”

It’s safe to say that this dog was not living a good life, but rescuing her proved difficult.

As a stray dog, she probably did not trust humans very much. So, when someone tried to take her in, it was hard because the dog refused to be touched. This person recorded the whole thing and made a video of it. In this video, you can see how much the humans had to persevere and be patient to get this dog to trust them.

For most of their rescue efforts, the dog is actively afraid of the humans trying to help her. Every time they get closer to her, she backs away. Even though they shower her with treats, she sniffs them suspiciously and only eats them if the people are not around. At one point, one of the rescuers grabbed a hold of her, but she wiggled out of it and ran away.

With patience, the rescuers built up the dog’s trust, and managed to get her the help she needed.

Finally, one of the gas station employees, who this dog was more familiar with anyway, got her to snack on treats while he was standing right there. At that point, he was able to scoop her up and the team put her in their car and took her to the vet. The dog was still very scared at that point and didn’t want to be touched, but the rescuers eventually built up her trust.

They named her Freya, and at the vet they were able to ensure that she was healthy and clean. She was cleaned of all potential parasites and got vaccinated. Additionally, she also got groomed for possibly the first time ever. Freya started to look much happier and trusting at that point!

The Love Furry Friends Channel is a one-woman team dedicated to rescuing animals.

Based in Ukraine, she sets out to rescue as many stray animals as she can. She uses her own funds to take care of them and nurse them back to health, and when they are ready to be adopted, she facilitates free pet adoptions.

One of the main reasons she was drawn to rescue animals is because of the harsh winters a stray has to endure. She says:

“I live in Ukraine, Its very cold in winter time and there are a lot of suffering dogs!”

When she heard about Freya living at the gas station, she knew she had to do something — and Freya sure is lucky she came around. She also runs an Instagram page, which she updates with information about the pets that are available for adoption.

Freya was soon adopted by people who now shower her with love.

Freya lives the good life now. She is now spayed and clean of any disease or parasites, and she gets to just roll around and enjoy the warm sunshine — with plenty of cuddles and treats of course.
