Sometimes, we are given a really tough situation where no decision is a great one. For one woman, that horrible predicament involved her dog and an abusive relationship.
While in a bathroom at the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, some people discovered a puppy who seemed lost.
Airports are huge places and it’s very easy to become disoriented or lost within them. When people in the restroom saw this puppy, they probably assumed that was what had happened. Upon closer inspection, it was much sadder than that.
The adorable pup was a three-month-old miniature chihuahua and was all alone in the airport bathroom.
While there weren’t any people around him, there was a note left. When authorities got on-site and took a look, things began to make a lot more sense. Chewy, the small dog, had been left in the bathroom intentionally.
Unlike other situations, however, this wasn’t done intentionally.
Most times that we hear of people leaving their dogs, the word “abandon” comes to mind. While it had appeared that little Chewy was abandoned in the airport, the note left some important clues as to what had actually happened.
This is what the note read:
“Hi! I’m Chewy! My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford to get me on the flight. She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart but she has no other option.”
It all started to make a lot of sense. Getting a ticket for a puppy is pretty expensive and if someone was running away from an abusive relationship, money was probably really tight.
The note continued on.
“My boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head he probably needs a vet. I love Chewy sooo much please love and take care of him xoxoxoxo”
When the abuse became too much, the girl fled with her dog. To make matters worse, the abusive boyfriend had even kicked the poor dog and really hurt him! It’s rather easy to tell from the note just how sad of a situation this truly was.
Thankfully, that isn’t the end of the story!
Despite the sad start to this story, it has a pretty awesome ending. A local rescue heard about Chewy’s plight and decide to step in to get him adopted. Connor and Millie’s Dog Rescue CMDR was able to take him in and find him a forever home without much of a problem!
With a story like that, people were eager to adopt the battered pup.
From what we can tell from the story, the girl was also able to get on the flight! Although they had to be separated, a life of love that’s free from abuse is definitely worth it.
The rescue posted on their Facebook and within a few days, they had already gotten him a home.
