Of course, as they grow, we love them even more. They’re great companions, best friends, and loving partners in crime, even if they always seem to have energy when we don’t.
The whole journey of owning a dog is rewarding (if you’re a good, responsible owner or foster, of course). And when we compare photos of them as babies to the ones of them all grown up…well, just take a look and see if there’s a single one that doesn’t make you say “AWW.”
1. Shaggy boy
And big he grew!
Now he’s a sweet-looking shaggy sidekick who looks like he enjoys getting a lift from dad.
2. The cub becomes the king
Even after they get too big – and SO fluffy – it seems worth giving it a try.
We can’t stop laughing at the comment: “That looks like a malamute / bouncy castle cross.”
All grown up from r/aww
3. Grumpiness is forever
Either way, we just love this comparison. We just hope he looks happy once in a while.
4. Through the years…
This puppy grew into a big girl REAL fast.
We just hope people keep that in mind when they adopt a little one.
5. BFFs
There’s really nothing like have a dog to grow up with – especially during those teenage years!
6. Still hopeful
In fact, we think that’s probably the hardest part of having a dog.
How do you not give them all the treats all the time?!
7. From cute to crushing
Of course, that doesn’t mean we stop asking them to get right up there.
After all, who doesn’t want to cuddle with their best bud?
8. Friends forever
But we bet these two have some great times during the day – and find some way to snuggle comfortably at night.
9. Never give up
It’s JUST like trying to sleep under a dresser.
Growing up sucks from r/pics
10. Boing!
And that pleading gaze is still intact. It looks like this dog knows just how well that look works on humans.
11. Pick me up, dad!
It went from sleepy puppy to adoring adult – and this husky even looks like it has a smile on its face.
12. A big year
It looks like both dog and master have grown into themselves over the last 365 days – and they both look happier for it.
13. Puppy face
Although, at just under 2 years old, this sweet girl is still a kid – a kid with her own favorite chair, of course.
I was ask to see my puppy grown up. Here she is when we got her to a year and three months later! from r/aww
14. Growing fluff
He has truly mastered the camera – and no doubt many hearts along the way.

15. It never gets old
And they each have that special place where they like to be pet the most. For this sweet girl, it’s right on the chin.
16. From cute to cuter
We can’t take it. But we would really love to take it home and give it all the cuddles.
Still fits! from r/aww
17. Siblings
But with a Great Dane it’s pretty easy to see how fast they grow – and just how big!
These gentle giants are just the cutest.
18. Twinning
These two are “The Cheese Pups” of viral video fame and now we know their growth might be due to all that calcium!
19. Coworker
At least this little guy seems pretty serious about getting things done.
20. Great big Dane
We love those big, floppy ears – and this pup’s ability to sleep in the same place and position after gaining 100 pounds.
21. Aerial view
It’s a good thing this dog is getting bigger because you’d definitely want more of it in your life.
Growing up from r/aww
22. Sweet sheltie
And while time may have passed between these two photos, we see the toys managed to survive.
23. Big smiles
And those puppy photos are just so sweet we can’t stop looking. It’s hard to believe something could be just as cute all grown up.
24. Nap nuzzles
This relationship is just too sweet.
25. Rescued and ridiculously adorbs
In the second and third photos, this dog looks like it’s thinking about the same thing.
26. Steely gaze
In fact, he makes us want to snuggle him and apologize at the same time.
27. Bigger AND fluffier
But all that dog hair clean up would be worth it for a furry friend.
28. More golden by the hour
Golden retrievers will always look so friendly and snuggly – but they really do get a certain air of nobility about them as they age.
And it’s fun to see.
29. The shrinking human
Can you believe only 7 months went by between the first and the third photo?
30. Outgrowing the ears
He really grew into them though – and while we don’t know how much time passed in between, this adorable dog managed to maintain that puppy stare.
31. We’re gonna need a bigger chair
These photos were taken only 10 weeks apart!
That means there’s still some growing to do – though were not sure how long the chair can hold up to the task.
32. Always a baby
This dog looks like it learned to trust its owner a lot over the years. We’re not sure it was all that into the idea of being held in that first photo, but now it’s mugging for the camera.
33. A big year
But all the growth (and naps) that took place over one year were eye-opening.
We love to see the human transformations as well!
34. The incredible shrinking toy
Doesn’t it look so tiny next to this grown up good girl?
35. Skeptical of this whole aging thing
At least he doesn’t have to pay taxes.
36. That same smile
Same pose, same smile – the only difference is that he lost those puppy dog eyes. Though we’re still pretty convinced by the stare.
37. Still there, but no longer hiding
Now, it just looks like a place to chill while it flashes big smiles.
What a difference 2 years will make – but at least they still fit in their favorite spot!
38. Big boy!
Alas, this pup still looks like a big baby at heart all snuggled up in dad’s arms.
39. Getting heavy
Maybe he remembers his days in Simba mode and is just waiting for mom to get her muscles on and lift him up to the sky again.
Good luck with that, buddy!
40. Once a lapdog, always a lapdog
But how could you possibly kick this precious girl off of your lap?
Maybe dad’s legs are just getting really strong.
My dad and my dog they have done this every night since we have gotten her when she was 10 weeks old. from r/aww
41. Never too old for nuzzles
Still, that second photo especially makes us super jealous.
42. Rockabye big baby
But while he doesn’t look terribly comfortable, he does look willing to humor his mom.
43. If I fits, I sits
Once a pet finds a favorite hiding spot, it’s hard for them to understand why it doesn’t grow with them.
44. 10-month turnaround
But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still like to be escorted around by dad.
In fact, he looks downright pleased by the free ride.
45. Tangled up in you
While this dog seems perfectly content to be daddy’s little dude, he’s not quite sure what to do with those paws anymore.
So he’ll just raise them in the air like he just don’t care.
46. All the floof
And while commenters were eager to take a brush to him or her, it may just be that this doggo just got done playing.
47. Just hanging out
These snuggly, drooly lovebugs are great companions – but you have to make sure they don’t get used to sharing your bed (at least not if you also want to use the bed).
48. Ride or die
A furry co-pilot is the best upgrade you can get for your car.
49. Growth spurt
Of course, we have no doubt that Norman still thinks he’s a lap dog.
And those ears are still so irresistable!
50. From floof to floofier
Either way, mom can still pick up this big pup – and he or she doesn’t seem to mind one bit.
They’ll always be our babies, after all.
