When Hope For Paws received a call that there were two dogs living under the I-5 freeway in California, they headed right over to see if they could aid these pups.
Not only does the Los Angeles-based rescue group take in animals that are homeless or have been neglected, abandoned, or abused, but they also raise money to pay for their veterinary care and find these animals new homes. And they weren’t going to let a busy freeway wasn’t get in the way of their mission.
The rescuers, Eldad the organization’s founder and his friend Vanessa, were able to locate where the dogs were hiding under the side of the freeway and devised a plan to safely catch them.
They had to crawl through the freeway’s tunnels where the dogs were lurking.
At this point, the dogs had been surviving for several weeks in the sewers off of food people had been leaving for them.
The rescuers were able to corner the two curly-haired shaggy white dogs and gain their trust with some hamburgers.
While these two cuties didn’t put up a fight, they were still pretty scared.
They seemed happy as long as they were together and very much looked like they wanted to be rescued, but they were just afraid. One of the dogs even covered his smaller sibling to protect it.
Their rescuers were extremely gentle and patient with two dogs.
These literally sat in piles of garbage to calm the siblings dogs and gain their trust.
Once the dogs learned that they could trust their rescuers they were pretty excited about leaving.
Now that the scary part was over, it was time for the fun part.
The dogs were given names, Pepsi and Cola, as well as a makeover.
The dogs were really excited and running around once they were bathed and all their matted fur was shaved down.
The family that had fed Pepsi and Cola while they were down in the sewers came to the rescue center to meet the dogs.
Pepsi and Cola seemed very grateful to them.
Now it was time to find this pair a forever home so they could have their happily ever after together.
According to Hope for Paws’ Facebook page the folks at Maltese Rescue California gave the pair a foster home and then found them a forever home.
Many rescue organizations will do everything they can to keep “bonded pairs” together.
“Usually bonded pairs have grown up together and can be siblings or non-siblings,” Rescue in Style explains.

We’re very thankful that Pepsi and Cola were adopted together so they can spend the rest of their days with each other.
We’re also real thankful for folks like the ones at Hope For Paws who go to great lengths to save the lives of animals.
