2020’s been a difficult year.

We’re literally living through a worsening global pandemic – arguably the most impactful in 100 years.

But all is not lost!

There’s always hope that things will get better.

And fortunately, there’s still a lot of light in this beautiful world.

Meet Drools!

He’s a 4-year-old Boxer-Pitbull mix that’s spent the last two years at the Conour Animal Shelter in Colorado.

6.5 million animals are admitted to shelters each year in the United States alone, according to ASPCA.

And almost a fourth of that population is tragically euthanized.

Despite Drools’s adorable exterior and huge heart, he’s been having trouble finding a new family.

I’m not sure how, though, because Drools is absolutely adorable!

Just look at that face!

The shelter refused to give up on Drools, though. After a rather lengthy stint at Conour, they gave him first priority.

Soon enough, he met the family of his dreams, all thanks to one woman.

Her name is Kacey Widetich.

As the executive director of the Relay for Rescue organization, she’s been saving lives for years!

So what did she do?

Well, she went above and beyond.

She literally moved into the shelter to expedite Drools’s adoption process!

And her efforts certainly did not go unnoticed.

Kacey even went out of her way to share Drools’s story and showcase his affable personality!

By the time Kacey moved in, Drools had lived in the shelter for over two years.

Uncoincidentally, Drools met his forever family only 12 days after his new roomie’s arrival!

In total, he spent 729 days at the shelter.

How did this adorable dog go so long without getting adopted?

It’s unfathomable!

The sight of him driving off with his new friend was something to behold.

Well, 2020’s been a hell of a year, that’s for sure.

It was hard for Drools and Kacey, too!

Their story is a stark reminder that maybe good things still happen in the world.

Drools is happier than ever these days. Even though he’s with a new family now, he still loves Kacey to death!

Kacey Widetich has a heart of gold.

She took it on herself to ensure Drools’s happiness.

Kacey had a single goal in mind. And she executed her plan to perfection. Incredibly, her efforts go beyond just Drools.

“If my spending the night in the shelter for a few nights helps even one dog get adopted, I will have done my job. But I’m not stopping at just one — they ALL deserve a second chance at happily ever after.”

A loving gesture turned into the ultimate slumber party!

Kacey and Drools are adorable together.

With COVID continuing its rampant course, she wears a mask to protect those around her. She would never risk Drools’s health!

In a dire moment in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, Frodo asks Samwise the Brave, “What are we holding on to, Sam?”

Sam responds with a legendary line:

“That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.”

Despite all the madness that has been 2020 (and it’s still not over), we must appreciate all the good that still exists in this world.

Fortunately, things are looking up. 2021 is right around the corner and the winds of change are in full motion!

After 729 days, Drools has a new forever family!

Now, Drools is forever home.
