In a viral video, a young boy and his dog enjoy a little playtime together.

The boy and his dog, which also happens to be a pit bull, are seen playing on a blanket and hopping around the floor. The little boy is playing a little ‘hide and seek’ game with the dog and the dog is loving every second of it. The dog hops over the boy to lick his face just as the boy covers it. He is not deterred as he adorably jumps over the boy to lick the other side of his face.

With his long tail wagging, the dog gently nudges the boy’s face to get him to lift his head.

The boy moves positions just as the dog finds a way to lick his face. The two enjoy the back and forth for a few minutes. You can tell the dog and the boy are best friends and that this isn’t the first time they have romped on the floor together. It seems like a favorite pastime for both.

Pitbulls definitely have a reputation for being aggressive dogs but this little pup is nothing but a big softy.

The ASPCA weighs in on the breed’s tendencies…good and bad.

They state on their website that the breed is a descendant of the original English bull-baiting dog, which is a dog that was ‘specifically bred to bite and hold large animals such as bulls or bears around the face and head.’ – aspca.org

“When baiting large animals was outlawed in the 1800s, people turned instead to fighting their dogs against each other. These larger, slower bull-baiting dogs were crossed with smaller, quicker terriers to produce a more agile and athletic dog for fighting other dogs.” – aspca.org

However, aspca.org says that some pit bulls were bred for work and companionship. “These dogs have long been popular family pets, noted for their gentleness, affection and loyalty.” – aspca.org

According to the ASPCA, pit bulls were bred to fight other dogs and to not show aggression toward humans.

Because they needed to be around people and handled by people, an aggressive pit bull would have been ‘culled or killed to avoid passing on such an undesirable trait.‘ – aspca.org

The ASPCA’s further stance on pit bulls takes current breeding into consideration.

“It is likely that that the vast majority of pit bull type dogs in our communities today are the result of random breeding—two dogs being mated without regard to the behavioral traits being passed on to their offspring. The result of random breeding is a population of dogs with a wide range of behavioral predispositions. For this reason it is important to evaluate and treat each dog, no matter its breed, as an individual.” – aspca.org

Just like people, every dog is an individual and for one little boy and his pal, their bond is one-of-a-kind.
