Back in 2012, an Indiana man named Jon Gulla rescued two stray black cat siblings. He named the cats Jack and Julie. Gulla adored the cats, and they loved him back. Julie in particular was very attached to him.

A few months after Gulla rescued the cats, he sadly had to say goodbye to them since he was moving into a dorm at his new college. Gulla’s mother, Lorinda Roberts, promised to take good care of the cats while her son was off at school.

Unfortunately, Julie slipped out of the house one day and ran down the road before Roberts could catch her. Roberts felt incredibly guilty about losing the cat.

“She just ran, and I couldn’t find her,” Roberts told Current in Carmel. “I was just beside myself, going up and down Keystone (looking for her).”

Gulla and Roberts looked and looked for the cat, but they couldn’t find her anywhere. Soon after that, Roberts and Gulla received another shock: Gulla had been diagnosed with lymphoma. Finding Julie naturally became less of a priority as Gulla focused on getting better. Still, though, Julie was never far from his thoughts.

The years passed, and soon it was October 2018.

A lot had changed in Gulla’s life. After years of treatment, he was officially cancer-free. He had also taken a job in transporation and married his long-time girlfriend. Even with all the changes in their lives, Gulla and his mom had never forgotten about Julie.

One day, Roberts was browsing a website called PawBoost Lost & Found Pets. She saw someone had posted about a small black stray cat who was declawed. The description perfectly matched Julie.

The description said that Julie was living under a house in Carmel, Indiana. The cat was nervous, and she would only come out if the family left food.

Gulla and Roberts headed over to house, hopeful and nervous. When they got there, the woman who owned the house said the cat was under the shed. Gulla slowly walked over to the shed.

As soon as Julie saw Gulla’s face, she ran out and went right over to him. She immediately started purring!

“[Gulla] called her name, and she came out and came right to him,” Christine McKeon, a woman who was caring for Julie, said. “She wasn’t that friendly. She wouldn’t come running up to us.”

Gulla brought Julie home that day, and she and her brother Jack reunited. Gulla was so happy to have his family back together again!

“Someone must’ve taken care of her. Her fur was soft. There is a problem with her tail, but she doesn’t look like she’s banged up or anything,” Roberts said. “I’m wondering what angel cared for her at some point, because we’ve had some rough winters.”
