Every day, dogs are carelessly abandoned by their owners for a whole host of different reasons. It truly is the most selfish act, as no matter what the circumstances are, most people are still able to leave their dog in a safe space such as a shelter.
But some people don’t, leaving these poor helpless animals to fend for themselves out on the streets. And that’s exactly what happened to a pooch from Ipoh, Malaysia who was abandoned on a busy road with no consideration for her safety.
Lionel Vytialingam was on his way to the grocery store when he first spotted the poor dog. She was in the middle of the road and in huge danger, with cars swerving to avoid her. He said in a Facebook post:
“Car & bike horns were blaring at this aimless lost creature. I held my breath each time she swerved into them or they into her.”
Lionel knew that he had to do something to help her. He got into his car and followed the frightened pooch slowly before pulling up to a curbside and coaxing her over. Thanks to Lionel’s quick thinking, the pooch walked away from the busy road and towards safety.
“Thank goodness she chose to walk towards me, away from the middle of the road,” Lionel said.
The dog was a friendly little thing, but understandably, she was cautious of Lionel and kept her distance. Lionel tried not to make any sudden movements so that he could win over her trust, saying:
“She stood away for bout 10 mins watching my every pulse it seemed, before she finally approached me from the back, sniffed, then walked round to face me.”
Lionel had noticed that the pooch had a note tied to her neck, and he was curious to see what it said. He asked her if she could take it, and she looked back at him with pleading eyes. Lionel hoped that the note would contain an address for the little dog, but instead what was written on there made him break down in tears.
Lionel was heartbroken for the pooch, but he knew that he had to get it together for her. He said:
“I experienced all kinds of emotions, but very little foresight. Probably wasn’t a good sight for all the passing vehicles. But inside of that moment of mental-blankness I decided. She was going to get into my car, and off the road.”
He couldn’t stand the thought of her being out on the street for any longer, so he put the dog in his car and drove home. He took the poor little thing into his house and fed and bathed her before putting her to bed in a cozy basket.
Thanks to Lionel, the pooch was now safely off the road, and she had a loving place that she could call home – at least for the meantime. He concluded his Facebook post by saying:
“I don’t know what matters lie ahead to decide, but i knw for now, i have a few more smiles to share when i wake tmrw morning.”
What an amazing act of kindness. We hope that this sweet little dog will go on to find her furever home very soon.
