It was a cold November day in the city of Kostroma, Russia when a dog decided to chase after a duck.

That chase gave way onto some ice which was a bad idea.

The ice wasn’t very strong and the dog fell through the ice and into the frozen waters of Shagovsky Pond.

The poor dog was terrified and struggled over and over to get out of the ice to no avail.

Some onlookers called the authorities while some folks from the Public Committee of Shagovsky Pond filmed the ordeal.

But once the person started filming, something happened.

A man who was in a nearby car leaped out of the vehicle.

He ran out onto the ice without any shoes or a shirt on.

He risked his own life in an attempt to save the struggling dog’s life.

He slid on the ice with his bare belly to try and grab the dog.

But the dog was so terrified and wary of people that he just snarled at the man.

The dog actually ended up biting the man.

Still, this man wasn’t about to give up on the dog.

He started the distract the dog by making wild gestures with one hand.

While the dog was distracted by one hand, he grabbed the dog’s neck from behind with his other hand.

The man was pleased that he was able to save the dog and jogged back to his car as onlookers applauded his efforts.

The rescue team arrived shortly thereafter and administered some first aid of the man who hurt his hand.

“From them, I learned the name of this man,” a post from the Public Committee Shagovsky Pond’s Facebook page read.

“I took some more pictures of him, after which he asked me not to advertise his first and last name. I explained to him that this situation could be repeated not only with the dog and that it is better on the contrary now to highlight this situation, for which even his name will be needed. A man allowed to be called Alexander in this report.”
