Even those animals that live in the wild deserve some respect and so must not be harmed. How much more for those pets that live with us? They bring us so much joy that all we could do in return because animals deserve to be treated better.

Just like this gentle pig named Princess.

Ten years ago, she was nameless. She was locked in this dark stall where she was used only for breeding. She was also blind and could only “see” shadows that guide her around the stall. You can see how she was clearly neglected and even abused by her previous owners.

But Todd of Arthur’s Acres Sanctuary wants to save her.

He gave her a visit and immediately observed how skittish she was. The poor pig was afraid of being with humans; she has shown great mistrust even to Todd, who had no intentions of harming her.

He named her Princess because he believes she deserves to be happy and experience all the world’s comforts.

That’s why he was determined to help Princess and give her a forever home. He took it one day at a time. He started her healing process by giving her some treats each time he visits. He figured she might not have eaten something sweet, delicious, and nutritious for some time.

She loved all of it!

Since then, Todd visits Princess and spends hours to be with her. He brings her treats and trying to show her that she can trust humans, that humans can love her, too. Slowly but surely, she was showing some problems.

There was still one problem, though: Princess won’t let Todd touch her.

It might be the trauma she had all those years. A single touch might signal to her brain that she’s going to get abused again. This is one thing that Todd had to patiently erase from her mind. He continued what he did best: spending time with her and giving her some yummy treats.

Slowly, Todd was trying to bring Princess out of that dark stall.

He would place her food outside, and she gladly followed. That was the beginning of her life outside the stall. She started running around the grass and all over the fields; she even met new friends! Princess has a renewed sense of life.

But had she allowed Todd to touch her already?

He learned a trick that eventually led to that moment. He would feed her with treats (carrots or strawberries), draw them to her mouth while gently touching her nose. She didn’t even react! All she cared about was those treats. In time, Todd can freely touch her, and it turns out she’s a huge fan of belly rubs!

Soon enough, Princess chases Todd around.

It’s like she doesn’t want to be away from the human she trusts. She enjoyed her days on the farm with some warm hay, delicious and healthy treats, and the warmth of a human’s touch.

Todd’s efforts on Princess showed that sometimes, all we need is a second chance – and love.
