In August of 2016, the people of Louisiana were dealing with severe flooding. Josh Pettit was in his boat at the time of the flooding when he suddenly spotted a dog that was in urgent need of help. When he saw a bush shaking, he realized that there was a dog hiding there and was about to drown. The pup was completely in fear and looked right at him. Josh realized she was seconds away from drowning and immediately jumped in to help.
“Baton Rouge got flash floods this morning going from dry land to 8ft of water in people’s houses within 2hrs! Extremely bad situation. Out of the corner of my eyes I see a bush shaking! This is all I saw! Eyes and nose barely above water. She could barely tread water anymore she was so worn out and had the saddest eyes I ever seen so scared for her life! We saved her and she came laid her head on my lap and cried and moaned like a big baby! She was thanking me. I thank God for letting me notice her,” the man posted on Facebook via the Love What Matters page.
The little pup was completely in panic, but Josh was able to get the dog safely on his boat.
After Josh saved the pup, he made an even more impressive rescue.
The man found a veterinarian’s office in his boat that was severely damaged due to the flood. He checked to see if there was anyone inside and managed to bring the veterinarian and all of his animals back to safety. Josh then gave the dog he rescued earlier to the vet, who could check if she was microchipped.
Luckily, it didn’t take long before the pup’s owner was found. The dog – who was named Sadie – finally reunited with her owner. Her owner said that Sadie ran off when they were putting their other dog in the car, and she likely couldn’t handle all the chaos.
Unfortunately, the flooding was imminent and the owners had no choice but to leave without her.
Josh’s post on Facebook quickly went viral with over 59,000 likes and 8,000 shares. Josh rightfully received tons of praise from people all around the world.
“I worry so much about the people there, but it’s the animals that are totally helpless. I wish I could be there to help in some way,” one person commented.
“So glad that you listened to God and took a second look at the bush. She was so happy that someone was willing to help her in her time of need and then to also rescue a vet and his animals what a special person you are,” another Facebook user said.
