One day, a pregnant cat gave birth to her kittens in an abandoned house in Liverpool. Unfortunately, one of the kittens was very sickly, and so her mom made the tough choice to leave her behind. The little kitten was left all alone in this house, and if she didn’t get help fast, she wasn’t going to make it.

The kitten seemed to realize how desperate her situation was. And so, she started meowing as loud as she could. She was so loud, the whole neighborhood could hear her.

A 10-year-old boy was one of the people who heard the kitten’s cries. The kindhearted animal lover wanted to rescue the kitten, and so he called the RSPCA to ask for help.

The RSPCA and firefighters from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service quickly went to the abandoned house. When they got there, they could clearly hear the kitten’s meows.

“Her cries were so loud and when we finally saw her, I couldn’t believe that an animal so small was making such a loud noise. She was crying for her life,” RSPCA Inspector Helen Smith said.

The firefighters took the door off its hinges, and the RSPCA inspectors went in to look for the kitten.

They found her curled up in a corner, and they were shocked to see what a bad state she was in. She was very emaciated, and she also had an infection in her eye. The RSPCA estimated that she was about four weeks old, and they thought she had been in the house for about four days.

The inspectors brought the kitten to the vet, where they examined her eye. They found she had a piece of chipboard in it. The vet took out the chipboard and gave the kitten antibiotics, and he said that she would most likely make a full recovery. The RSPCA inspectors decided to name the sweet kitten Cleo.

“It was a really good rescue with the best possible outcome,” Helen Smith said. “The crew from the fire service were fantastic, and we’d also like to thank the 10-year-old boy who called us after hearing Cleo crying – without his call, she certainly would have perished all alone and cold in this derelict house.”

A week after the rescue, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service posted an update about Cleo on their Facebook page.

They said that sweet Cleo was doing very well. Her eye had healed, and she had gained a little weight. She was staying a foster family who loved her and gave her plenty of cuddles.

Cleo has incredible survival instincts. She refused to stop meowing until someone came to save her, and thankfully a kind little boy did the right thing and called for help. We’re so glad Cleo is doing so well now!
