In 2015, a devastating forest fire ripped through the forest near Valparaiso, Chile.
Firefighters struggled to contain the fire, and strong winds made the wildfire worse. Residents of Valparaiso desperately wanted some good news, and thankfully, they got some!
A group of Valparaiso residents saw a stray dog burying her puppies in the dirt. It was clear she was doing this to save them from the fire.
The residents ran up to some nearby firefighters and told them about the mama dog and her puppies. The firefighters immediately started searching for the stray animal.
“The puppies were found in a area charred by fire in Valparaiso,” KTLA wrote on Facebook.
The firefighters searched the area, and they soon found the stray dog the residents had told them about. The black dog was guarding a hole in the ground.
The firefighters started digging, and the mama dog didn’t try to stop them. She seemed to realize the firefighters were there to help her and her nine puppies.
It took about an hour for the firefighters to get all the puppies out of the deep hole their mother had dug.
The puppies were about two weeks old, and miraculously, they were all alive. Their mother, who was nicknamed Blacky, had clearly buried her puppies in the dirt to save them. Thanks to Blacky’s quick-thinking, all nine puppies were okay!
“They were all alive and healthy,” one of the relieved rescuers told Telemundo.
Valparaiso residents were amazed by the story of Blacky and her puppies.
“It’s beautiful that they’re all alive because it’s a miracle. I can’t say anything else,” one Valparaiso resident told Telemundo.
The firefighters brought Blacky and her puppies to the vet, where they were all officially declared healthy.
The puppies and their mom were all placed with a foster mom. The little family was so happy to be together.
Many locals came forward and said they would adopt Blacky and her puppies. Once the puppies were weaned, they all went to their new homes.
The puppies and Blacky are all doing great!
The video of Blacky and her puppies went viral on YouTube. Many people were amazed by Blacky’s quick-thinking.
Other commenters joked that it seemed like Blacky knew she had become a local celebrity!
