Being separated from our pets is one of the worst feelings. It doesn’t matter whether it’s for a month, a week, or a day — it’s always heartbreaking!
Our pets are a part of our family and it only makes sense that we want to be with them.
However, when Private Hannah Foraker departed her home in Cleveland, Ohio to head off to basic training recently, her poor best friend Buddy had to be left behind.
At 13 years old, she was already quite old and she wasn’t sure if she would ever get to see her again.
However, after several long months, Foraker finally got a break. They gave her a two-week leave for Christmas, and of course, the first thing on her mind was sprinting home to see her dear old friend.
It’s a video that will warm your heart and bring you to tears, especially if you are an animal lover like us.
The reunion of the soldier and her beautiful golden retriever is unlike any other that we’ve ever seen.
The two of them have had a very long history together and they’ve seen a lot over the years. Unfortunately, for Buddy, her age also means that the health problems are starting to creep in.
Foraker stated, “She’s very old and has arthritis and is mostly deaf, but I still remember getting her as a puppy.”
At the reunion, Foraker could only hope that Buddy’s memory hadn’t gone too.
Would the pup still remember her?
Luckily, in a matter of a few short seconds, all of her suspicions were confirmed.
Buddy had missed her as much as she missed him!
Foraker remembers, “We opened the front door and she came running out and greeted me and my family, but then kind of did a double take and came back to me.”
Foraker kneels down to give Buddy her full attention. Foraker starts to talk to Buddy to tell him how much she missed him, while she continuously pets him because he cannot get enough of her. Once she starts talking, Buddy starts to cry!
Buddy cannot believe his ears, Hannah is finally back home!
Once Buddy fully grasps that Hannah is home, he gets another rush of disbelief and loses his footing in his excitement. Hannah is there for her good boy and lets his head lay on her thighs. She gives his head a good rub, which makes him lift his head up for bit before laying it right back on her.
Buddy is able to cuddle up next to his best friend of 13 years and he is not going to miss any second!
Buddy’s old age and health issues has slowed Buddy done in the recent years. So, those two weeks were great for Buddy, according to Foraker’s parents.
The reunion with Buddy brought him back to his former self.
Foraker said, “My parents were so astonished by how happy she was during my time at home.”
The happiness was not only because of the initial reunion. Buddy was ecstatic every day that Hannah was home for the holidays. Hannah not only brought back Buddy’s happy personality, she brought back an energy of his youth too.
“She normally has trouble going up and down the stairs and takes shorter walks, but now that I was home she was so happy and active. She would get up and do her happy dance,” Foraker explains.
Hannah Foraker’s leave was only for the holidays, but Buddy soaked up every minute of it. Buddy had not forgotten his girl after being gone for three and half months. When Hannah was asked how she felt about the reunion her answer was simple.
“It was amazing, I wish I could do it again,” Foraker said.
