It’s always fun to get out into nature to see wildlife. After all, it’s not something you’d see every day around your home. But sometimes, wild animals come into contact with humans by accident.

Countless animals get stuck in sticky situations every year. Sometimes, this occurs when wild creatures find themselves in some sort of man-made area where they can’t escape. Of course, this is a huge problem for the poor things. But it can also cause issues for the people who find them.

Like one family in England

Recently, a family from England noticed something odd in their home. They kept hearing a noise but initially, they couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. Then, they realized the sound it must be emanating from the fireplace.

Then, they saw something strange

After a while, the family just considered the noise as part of the house’s structure. After all, they didn’t notice anything wrong. But then one day, they saw something in the fireplace that startled them.

There was an owl trapped inside

At first, they just saw a strange shape. Confused, the family decided to take a closer look to make sure their eyes weren’t playing tricks on them. That’s when they realized it was a bird…not just any bird…more specifically, an owl.

They had to contact the RSPCA

Lauren Bailey is an inspector at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). She said about the case, “The family had been hearing noises from the chimney and fireplace for a few days but had no idea there was a bird trapped inside until he fell all the way to the bottom.” That had to have been a big surprise.

The family was worried

Obviously, the family didn’t want an owl in their house. But they didn’t call the RSPCA just for themselves — they were more worried about the owl. They’d heard him for a long time before they realized he was in there. So, they were anxious to get help fast.

Bailey arrived at the home

When Bailey arrived at the house, the owl looked happy to see that someone was going to rescue him. Bailey said, “He had his feet up against the grille like he was waving and asking for help.” He was probably looking forward to getting out of there as soon as possible.

The removal

Bailey put on gloves so she could handle the owl. Remember, while this bird was eager to get out of the fireplace, it has huge talons that if not handled properly, could cause serious harm. So, she carefully removed the grille to ensure she didn’t hurt or startle the bird. Finally, he was successfully removed and safe.

The next steps for owl

It was important to take the owl to the animal hospital. That makes sense considering he’d spent quite some time inside the fireplace. According to Bailey, he was very thin and covered in soot. So, he’d been there perhaps longer than realized.

The bird is recovering now

Luckily, the owl is now in the hospital. He seems to be recovering nicely. Once he completes his stay, he’ll be able to go back to living in the wild.

Protecting animals

This family is a great example of what you should do if you see wildlife in need. They knew this owl was in danger, so they took the appropriate actions to save him. Luckily, he’s going to be okay.
