The moment the animal was introduced to the family's other pets is so sweet.

Not everything is as it seems.

That’s one useful nugget of wisdom to remember when processing recyclables. What looks like a box of scraps might turn out to be something else so it pays to be careful.

One such thing happened to Liliana and Martha when they found a taped-up cardboard box. The box seemed unassuming until they heard meowing from the inside.

They took the box with them and peeled off the tape.

All the while, the little kitten was calling out for help. Once the top flap of the box was rid of tape, the kitten emerged from its cardboard prison.

At first, they thought the cat was blind, given the condition they found her in. She had a lot of scabs and matted fur spots like he hasn’t been cleaned for a very long time.

Her condition was so bad that she couldn’t even open her eyes normally. But despite her injuries and partial blindness, she somehow knew that she’s in a good place now. She even allowed them to bathe her.

They immediately took her to a vet so she could be checked.

They prescribed her antibiotics and medicated baths to make sure her wounds and skin heal quickly and properly. It didn’t make her well overnight but it definitely made a difference.

Her fur got back its color and she can already open her eyes. It wasn’t the only thing different about the little kitten. She also became much more energetic and would always come up to them for pets and affection.

But the story didn’t end after her rescue.

The moment she was picked out from the box, Liliana and Martha knew that they had to take her in. They named the kitten Phoenix as a testament to growth and happiness. And once Phoenix was healthy enough, she began exploring the world on her own.

She was not alone though as Liliana and Martha are not the only ones she met.

By being adopted, she also got siblings.

The two tracked Phoenix’s recovery. She started engaging with her toys and became much more playful around them. At that point, they thought it was the perfect time for her to meet the rest of the family.

Raine, one of their gentler dogs, welcomed little Phoenix calmly. It was Olive that truly tested Phoenix’s social battery.

Slowly, she became best friends with the two.

While Raine just lets Phoenix do whatever, Olive follows her around almost all the time. As they said, Olive wants to be best friends with Phoenix in the soonest time possible.

Whether she’s annoyed by Olive’s presence or not, one thing remains certain. She’s now living far from how she’s treated back then where she ended up in a taped-up cardboard box.

Now, she belongs to a family that accepts her and a dog that never leaves her side. Liliana and Martha admit that she’s an entirely different cat than when they first found her. And of course she is, because this time she’s growing up loved.

Watch what these women found when they heard a noise from a taped-up box.
