Unlikely animal friendships always hold a special place in our hearts.

We’ve seen it all, from cheetahs growing up with puppies, monkeys and their dog pals, a giraffe with an ostrich, or that one story of the hound and the fox. The combinations may be different across every pair, but all of them are equally loveable.

On a farm in Oklahoma, an unexpected pair came together. Even in their apparent size difference, the pair go on adventures where their friendship became a story of a lifetime.

Every morning, Olee walks up to the dog door and waits there.

The mallard stands patiently, or at least he’s trying to, because any minute now, he’ll meet his friend. One would think that he’s waiting for another duck, maybe from a different breed. Ducks beget ducks, much like dogs beget dogs. Such is life.

But emerging from the house is an animal about 30 times heavier than OIee. His friend? A chocolate-colored Saint Bernard named Biss.

Jessie Vallier owns the duo.

She shared that the two bonded pretty quickly and spontaneously. Never mind that they’re of different species.

“I noticed Olee following Biss around,” Vallier said to the animal channel The Dodo. “About a month after we adopted them, he became Biss’s little shadow”

Except during bedtime, the two are inseparable.

Whenever they spend time together, Olee finds it hard to hide his excitement. If dogs wag their tails like windshield wipers in a storm, Olee does something else.

“As soon as Biss runs outside, Olee gets so excited!” she said, describing how Olee would flap his wings like he’s trying to fly.

Even as different animals, the two of them enjoy a lot of things together.

One of their favorite pastimes is “water sports”, more specifically, lounging inside a kiddie pool. While Olee is comfortable swimming and fluttering on the water just like any other duck, Biss, meanwhile, does what all big dogs do – just kind of float.

“When I first saw their interaction, I was blown away how comfortable they are with each other,” she said. “They run around the yard together.”

They also play fetch, which Vallier explained as Biss running after the ball and Olee just running with him.

Both of them embody what real friendship looks like.

“I think the biggest thing that shocked me was how well they got along, and how gentle Biss was with this duck,” Vallier shared. “It’s amazing watching a 153-poiund dog play wand be around with a 5-pound duck.”

A year and a half into their friendship and with other animals coming in, the two remained inseparable. Whenever Biss shows up, one should expect that Olee is hanging around close by.

If you think this kind of friendship can be found in storybooks, you’re right.

Vallier shared that she read a story about two best friends, and not coincidentally, the best friends were Biss and Olee.

Their friendship has since been printed into a book titled “Adventures of Biss and Olee”. And it’s a story that will be read for years to come.
