Dogs are some of the friendliest creatures on Planet Earth! Dogs view every other animal as a friend and potential playmate — whether that animal is half the size of them or twice their size.

This video of a dog attempting to play with two horses is the perfect example of this.

We’d be lying if we said we didn’t feel excited whenever we see horses trotting by.

There’s something magical and enchanting about them that leaves even our dog friends in awe. The dog pictured below is probably used to playdates with smaller dogs, so he is beyond thrilled when he encounters these towering horses with glossy manes and swishy tails.

What could possibly be more fun than hanging out with this pair of tall four-legged creatures?

He’s a bit bashful at first, as many of us are when approaching others to introduce ourselves.

However, he can’t seem to resist the idea of interacting with these big new playmates.

When he finally musters up the courage to approach the horses, he frolics and bounces to his heart’s content. This is one pup who truly can’t contain his excitement at the prospect of new friends.

Interestingly enough, the dog appears to be better at horsing around than the actual horses are. The horses are too busy eating to pay too much attention to the pup.

So, do dogs and horses make good playmates?

According to the Smithsonian magazine, they do! The magazine says:

“Dogs and horses may not be the most intuitive teammates, but paired up in the right setting, the two domesticated species can have their fair share of fun—at times even playing together and mimicking each other’s facial expressions, new research suggests.”

The magazine continues by saying:

“Engaged in play, dogs and horses often mirrored each other’s moves, jumping, pushing and even nipping mischievously at each other. They also put themselves in vulnerable positions, such as rolling on their backs, displaying their throats and stomachs—a strong sign that they were at ease and even communicating their friendly intentions, according to Inside Science.”

Many people took to the YouTube comments to share their love for the sweet dog and horses.

One YouTuber hilariously wrote: “Dog: Nope can’t sniff that butt.”

Another simply said: “So sweet and lovely dog.”

Even though the horses in this video aren’t so playful, it’s still adorable to watch how the dog interacts with them. Hopefully, after the cameras were turned off the horse played with the dog more!
