The city of San Pedro is found in the province of Laguna, Philippines. It is about an hour away from Manila if traffic is forgiving. Laguna is called a “gateway” between Metro Manila and the south which boasts of scenic views, beaches, and many historical landmarks.

It is also in San Pedro where you will find Bruce, a grieving four year old Shih Tzu. Bruce just lost his best friend and this poor dog felt the loss deeply.

Poor Bruce!

The video’s uploader is the daughter and she narrates how Bruce used to sit with her father in the garage and just spent their evenings listening to songs on the radio. Something common in the more provincial parts of the Philippines.

When her father began to feel ill, the dog seemed to sense it and Bruce became increasingly stressed out. Upon returning from the hospital, her father was not left with much time. He was bedridden from then on.

He even stays by the casket.

This is the third day of the wake and you can see Bruce still loyal to his master, staying by his side as if to make sure no one ever disturbs his dad’s eternal sleep. The daughter can be heard talking to someone in Filipino but it’s Bruce’s barking and half howls that break your heart.

Even viewers feel Bruce’s pain,

“Poor little guy.”

says one.

“God bless it’s little heart…”

commented a lady named Leslie.

Bruce is an angel.

And just like any Shih Tzu, he is content to be with his family, following them from room to room showering them with his attention and affection. They are bred to be companions and nothing more. Their name means little lion but there’s nothing about them that’s fierce.

Did Bruce know?

Dogs have smell receptors 10,000 times more accurate than humans. Studies have suggested that dogs can smell diseases. Some leave specific odors in a person’s bodily secretions and there must have been a high chance that Bruce could smell it.

In fact there have been studies done wherein dogs actually detected illness in patients. Some can even be detected by the patient’s breath.

Canines against illness.

Whether or not Bruce knew his dad was ill, it’s enough to know that he did his best to comfort him by staying at his side consistently. This dog may be small but his heart? Yup. Dad knows everything, Bruce!

From this life and beyond.

Bruce is the very definition of the popular term, man’s best friend. He will forever remember his master and friend, and all those nights they spent listening to the radio watching the sky change its colors from light shades of blue to the beautiful pink and purple sunset hues their province boasts of.
