Dog refuses to leave pregnant friends side until help arrives
It was hours before they finally got help, but even still, Murphy didn't budge.

This homeless red-furred pooch absolutely refused to leave his pregnant friend’s side when she was hit by a car and left to die on the side of the road.

Times were tough and he could have just run away. But, the good boy did the right thing and stood his ground, waiting and waiting for someone to come by and help.

Hours passed, and so did all the cars, and after a while it looked like they were the only ones who really cared about each other in this big, lonely world.

Dogs are man’s best friend, but they’re also each other’s best friend, too. There couldn’t be more proof of that than the example set forth by this fluffy little guard dog named Murphy.

After his friend Marley was hit by a car in Muscoy, California, he patiently waited as she lay down by the side of the road in pain. Things were starting to look grim, but sadly no one stopped to help.

Until finally someone did!

Faith Easdale, who is with Dream Fetchers: Project Rescue, told The Dodo:

“We received a message she was lying on the side of the road. Marley was in terrible distress and pain and breathing heavily. We weren’t even sure if she was going to make it.”

When Marley was lifted by rescuers into the car, her protector Murphy was right there by her side. He refused to budge, and wasn’t going anywhere without her!

“She was very heavy and hard to move, but we did it. Murphy wouldn’t leave her side on the street.”

Once she was in the car, Murphy snuggled up close to his pal to comfort her and make sure she was okay.

However, just because they had been rescued doesn’t mean that Marley was out of the woods yet.

She had some pretty serious injuries that still needed healing.

“Marley is in shock and is going to require surgery, she has a fracture in her back leg on her tibia and her front leg elbow joint is shattered. She is being loved on and being made comfortable and she is getting all her fractures wrapped up, while we reach out for a specialty surgeon to perform surgery on her shattered elbow joint.”

That wasn’t the only news the vets discovered while Marley was lying on the table. No one knew it at the time, except for mom of course, but this lucky pooch was very much pregnant with a whopping 11 puppies!

Thankfully, Murphy had her bestie by her side to keep her warm and happy during the next few, very frightening days.

After a while though, it became very clear to Murphy that his best friend was actually in good hands. They were no longer on the streets, had a shelter over their head, food in their bellies, and the kindness of strangers was totally footing the bill!

Even though Faith could see that Murphy had really bonded with his best friend, she thought it was best to find him a good home while Marley recovered.

“He was able to be with her in the hospital but she was so critical that he wanted to go run and play.”

As for Marley and her babies, they went to a foster home where they got all the love and kisses they deserved. It wasn’t the same without Murphy, but they were both in a good place now, instead of being stuck on the side of the road.

Marley is now completely healed, and her new doggy parents wrote on Facebook that:

“Marley is just as sweet and beautiful as the day we brought her home. She plays like she has never had a broken bone.”
