Audra Petraškienė was driving along a quiet riverside street near her Lithuania home when she saw a horrifying sight.
A dog who escaped a terrifying fate.
It was a dog who was standing on the side of the road soaking wet with a makeshift anchor around his neck. Petraškienė immediately pulled over and jumped out of her car to help the terrified pup.
“Apparently, somebody put a heavy metal item on his neck and dropped him in the river to drown,” Petraškienė’s daughter, Andra, told The Dodo. “The dog was scared and shaking from the cold as well.”
Somehow the dog was able to power his way back to shore and save his own life.
“He’s a real fighter,” Andra said.
Petraškienė’s recorded her encounter with the poor dog. You could hear the pain in her voice from seeing the dog in such a state.
Knowing that someone could be cruel enough to try and murder him.
“Who did this to you?” she asks the dog.
She basically started to cry. Petraškienė wasn’t about to leave this scared little dog all on his own.
She took the dog home with her and of course got rid of the piece of the 6kg piece of metal around his neck.
She dried the pup off and took him to the veterinarian. The dog was, thankfully, found to be in good health with no serious injuries.
Petraškienė did report the incident to police and hopes that the individual will be brought to justice.
Apparently, this is nothing new for Petraškienė. Her daughter says she often cares for animals.
“I am very proud of her,” Andra said. “She loves animals and always takes care of them.”
Eventually, the owner of the dog was found but it is unclear how or why the dog was put in this situation.
Petraškienė decided to place the dog in an animal shelter until the situation could be resolved. According to Facebook, the act of violence against this poor animal may be an act of revenge by a neighbor.
“The weight attached to the puppy’s neck is a certain machine that only one person is a certain machine that only one person from the village is undergoing repair … These details and information we have available will be provided by the investigators tomorrow, along with the results of the dog’s blood tests, the veterinarian’s findings on the general health and psychological state of the puppy to investigate the event and to get acquainted with the file on the request of the organization,” a translation stated.
