Dogs are generally known to defend their food.
This instinctual behavior has helped them and other animals survive in the wild, where resources are hard to find and only the strongest survive.
“Guarding food and highly coveted objects is something dogs have been doing for ages. Wolves wouldn’t be nearly as successful if they didn’t have the ability to defend their resources. In a natural environment these adaptive traits give dogs an advantage,” experts explain.
Still, not all dogs exhibit this behavior and, when they do, owners usually try to manage it because it is a potential source of problems.
Given all that, it is obvious that resource guarding is in the dog’s nature and perfectly normal.
But, what about guarding their owners’ resources? Is that an instinct, too?

Well, a smart golden retriever has gone viral thanks to a YouTube video that shows him doing just that – protecting his mom’s food while she’s in another room.
In the video, we can see a couple having a meal, while their dog is at the back, sitting on the couch.
At some point, the woman leaves the table and, that’s when the fun starts.
After a few moments, the man decides that he’d like to try his wife’s food, so he takes his chopsticks and tries to pick what looks like a dumpling from her plate.
When the clever dog sees this, he immediately reacts, putting his paw on the man’s arm.
The man tries to remove the dog’s paw from his arm, but the dog then becomes more defensive and aims at the man’s head.
The retriever puts his paws on the man’s head and neck, while the guy is trying to avoid him.
The dog only stops his “attack” when he realizes that the man has regretted trying to “steal” food.
Soon, the woman returns and the guy tells her about his fight with their pet, while the doggo proudly sits on the couch again.
The video has gone viral with almost 500k views and 18k likes.
YouTube users loved the dog’s loyalty and his reaction received a ton of positive comments.
“Omg I just love him, I could watch him all day protecting his mom, adorable,” someone wrote, while another user commented: “I just enjoy watching your video, such a smart dog!!!love love that retriever!!!”
The sweet Golden Retriever’s name is Dou Dou and it is featured in numerous funny videos on a YouTube channel under the name Funny Dog DouDou Official.
In those videos, DouDou’s owners share funny daily incidents with the cute doggie.
