Children and animals can form bonds very early on in life. Partly down to the time they spend among one another, and partly down to the fact that dogs make natural companions, these are easy and lasting friendships to make. The main conflict that can come in these cases, is that children grow up, they change and they inevitably have other things to do.

This can be hard for your doggo to understand sometimes.

Sometimes it’s hard to say goodbye. Especially when you’re an overly attached dog like Dixie.

When it’s time for this boy from Texas, USA to leave for his day of school, Dixie does not tend to take it very well. Already acting soppy, she fawns over her pal in the seat beside her.

In fact, she’s so already filled with separation anxiety that she sits on his stuff.

Eventually, as the boy is trying to gather his things for his day at school, he has to physically move Dixie off of his things. Nice try Dixie, you’re going to have to try harder than that to keep your friend around today.

Mom Gabriela tries to distract Dixie from the driver seat, and you can see the dog’s sad eyes.

Dixie does not want to take her eyes off of her buddy. She knows what’s coming next and she attempts to cling to the young lad as long as possible. I feel like since this dog wants her friend to not go to school, and any kid loves getting off of school, there’s a family movie waiting to be made somewhere in there. I can see it now, this summer, coming to a cinema near you.

Mom even has to hold onto Dixie’s chain to stop her from actually following him.

This is how strong the bond between a child and a pet can be, that they dread having to face the moment when they have to stop seeing them. And it’s not even for forever, he’ll be back home after school! I guess dogs don’t have a concept of object permanence, (the ability to understand that when you don’t see something it can continue to exist).

She must believe that she will never see her pal again,

As the boy walks away, Dixie can’t stop herself from crying out.

There is nothing sadder in the world than the sound of a crying dog. Especially one who in a matter of seconds has already begun to miss her human companion.

…kind of cute though, let’s be honest.

She paces back and forth, desperately looking around for the lad.

But as she does, Mom begins to drive away and can only console her with words as she speaks to her dog. “Calm down Dixie, we’ll come back for him after school.”

Eventually she calls Dixie up to the front to ease her crying.

Even now though, as Dixie sits up front, she is still preoccupied with finding her buddy. She cries wheezily as if she expects to never see him ever again. You have to admit, the love this dog has for the boy, and how much she immediately missed him is pretty adorable.
