The winter season can be dangerous for everyone.

And we’re not only talking about humans but animals as well.

There can be all kinds of accidents during these months like getting trapped in a white-out or slipping into a frozen river.

Contrary to what other people believe, a body of water during the winter is still in its liquid form under the thick sheet of ice on the surface.

And once you fall in, you may not get yourself out of the freezing temperatures.

A couple from Sweden knew how dangerous this is so they didn’t hesitate when they saw someone in danger.

Viktor Johannessen just finished lunch with his girlfriend when they saw something strange.

They looked out the window and on the icy river, they saw a dark figure.

He said they were “a few hundred” meters from the shore so they couldn’t make anything out of it.

They thought some threw a huge rock onto the ice and broke it.

Fortunately, the curious couple investigated further and viewed the “strange thing” through a pair of binoculars.

They were surprised by what they saw.

Apparently, the “rock” is actually a moose that fell into the ice.

With the way it was paddling and the lack of progress from its movements, the couple knew that the moose was struggling to get itself out of the water.

The couple then wasted no time and sprang into action.

“We didn’t hesitate much, and got our clothes and ice skates on and set out, bringing along an axe and an ice pick,” Johannessen said in the information he provided ViralHog.

The couple only took a few minutes to get to the scene.

Johannessen said that they never really had the time to prepare mentally but they had to do what they had to do – start hacking the ice.

At first, the moose was scared. It was in danger and was desperate to get out.

Then, two humans came along so the fear was understandable.

It didn’t take long before the moose calmed down.

It just laid its head against the ice while its body shivered in the water.

At first, the couple thought that breaking the ice would be enough to get the moose out.

They soon realize that the moose was spent.

It was desperately struggling a few minutes back so it was too tired to get itself out of the water.

Then, the couple did something dangerous – they carved a path on the ice for the moose and they had to be careful not to break it all because they might fall in themselves.

In the end, the moose made its way back to shore.

Johannessen said that it took around 30 minutes to get the moose out.

It might be a short time for some but when you’re submerged in icy waters, that small moment of infinity would’ve been the difference between life and death.

The moose climbed to dry land.

It looked at the humans and then, with its shaky legs, walked back into the tree line.

In the end, we can clearly see that there are still people who care.

And while the moose can’t speak, we know that everyone, including the moose, is just as thankful.
