When Adriene Buisch saw a Facebook post about a 21-year-old cat named Tigger who had been abandoned at a veterinary clinic, she knew she had to help him.

Buisch and her boyfriend Michael had been thinking of getting a companion for their six-year-old cat, Stuart, and Tigger seemed like a perfect fit. The couple took the sweet cat home and began showing him the love that had been sorely missing from his life. The cat was skinny and his fur was matted, and he drank up to a gallon of water a day.

Buisch knew she had to get the cat checked out, so she brought him over to the veterinary clinic where she worked.

There, she learned that the elderly cat had kidney failure. The vet gave the cat medication and a prescription diet, and he soon began putting on weight. In no time, Tigger looked like a whole new cat!

Unfortunately, a few months after that they discovered that Tigger had a golf ball-sized tumor. Buisch didn’t know how much time Tigger had left, but she was determined to make his last years the best of his life.

Buisch created a bucket list for Tigger full of fun things for him to do. Tigger loved going on adventures with new parents!

“Though it might not be much to others, all the little trips outside are a blast for him because he loves to be outdoors…the beach being his favorite so far,” Buisch wrote on Facebook.

Tigger also enjoyed hanging out at home with his parents. He loved cuddling with Buisch and his brother Stuart.

Buisch always made sure to celebrate special occasions with Tigger. For his birthday, she gave him a cake made out of cat food with a candle on top. Tigger loved it!

After two wonderful years with Buisch, Tigger passed away in March 2017. He went peacefully and without any pain, and his family was around him during his last moments.

“A piece of us is missing but at the same time having him in our lives was the greatest blessing you could have imagined…. The fact that he tucked his head in my arms purring in his last seconds means everything to us. He didn’t have to be stressed out at a vet visit. .. and he passed with his complete family… Mommy (Adriene), Daddy (Michael), and his brother Stuart,” Buisch wrote on Facebook.

Buisch misses Tigger every day. She hopes his story will inspire other people to adopt senior pets:

“The most important part is that Tigger’s story just shows how amazing it is to adopt a geriatric pet and give them the best remaining days! He has forever changed our hearts and will hopefully change the hearts of others when it comes to adopting older pets!”
