Cops rescue tiny stray kitten and land her a gig as law enforcement’s cutest sidekick
It'd be hard to complain about work with a partner as cute as this.

As a police officer, there are undoubtedly a lot of events you come across in your career that can have a huge impact on peoples’ lives, and this was certainly one of them.

The officers and employees at the North Carolina Durham Police Department were recently joined by a new colleague, who has four paws and is now probably the most adorable officer on the force.

Best of all, he’s a kitten.

It all started when Officer J.N. Rowsey was dispatched to deal with a call in the neighborhood.

She went on to do her routine patrol.

Suddenly, the police officer and her partner noticed something on the street.

She spotted a small stray kitten.

It seemed completely alone, helpless, and scared. Right away, the two police officers figured it would be best to see if the scared kitten needed any help. She was very little and all alone, so it didn’t seem likely that she was on the streets for a long time.

Two Durham police officers rescued the tiny kitten in distress and the lucky kitten found a new home with one of the officers.

“Squad 4B Officers E.L. Masnik and J.N. Rowsey saw the kitten, who appeared to be frightened and alone, while on patrol near Linwood Avenue and Dawkins Street this week.”

“The officers searched the neighborhood in an attempt to find the kitten’s owner or its mother,” the Durham Police Department wrote on Facebook. “But [they] had no luck.”

After a bit of looking around, it was clear that this poor kitten was in fact, completely alone. There was no mom in sight, and she certainly had nowhere to go to either.

One thing that was certain, however, is that the adorable little feline seemed to take a liking to Officer Rowsey.

She was always extremely kind and caring for the timid animal, and it’s fair to say that the four-footer decided that she would be her new mom.

Of course, Officer Rowsey simply couldn’t decline.

Ever since these two have become the best of friends, and the kitten feels right at home with Officer Rowsey and her colleagues. This was just a routine patrol, but it has changed both of their lives completely.

Now that this kitten was saved and rescued from the streets, her playful and affectionate personality also started to shine through.

“‘We couldn’t leave the kitten in the street,’ Officer Masnik said. The officers carefully picked up the kitten and brought it to safety in Officer Rowsey’s patrol car. The kitten, who has not been named yet, quickly made itself comfortable and appears very happy to have found a new home with Officer Rowsey.”

She’s definitely the most adorable sidekick that the Durham Police Department has ever seen!

There are other stories around the country that are very similar.

For example, Officer Andy Simmons who works at the Hillsborough Police Department rescued a feline as well, and actually adopted him on the spot.

Not only did this furry four-footer find a home at Officer Simmons’ place, he actually took him to work with him every day.

There, he was given the moniker of ‘Officer Monty Sprinkles’

Everybody who saw him just instantly fell in love with him.

When Monty sadly passed away due to injuries sustained in an accident, the police officer adopted another feline in need and welcomed her to the police force, Mercy. These two are now completely inseparable.

She’s considered an essential part of the team.

“As days and weeks went on she began to bond with them, usually climbing on their shoulders as they sat, and it became the new norm,” Officer Simmons even mentioned to The Dodo. “Officers always ask where she is if she takes a day off or is not in my office.”

Who said felines couldn’t be police officers?
