Buddha and Mogwai are two adorable twin brothers. Between the two of them, they only have one good eye!
The two stray kittens were first found in a woman’s backyard in Casula, Australia. The woman was shocked by how tiny the cats were, and she was also worried because neither cat had opened their eyes. The woman contacted rescue group Inner City Strays, and they took the little brothers in.
While they were at Inner City Strays, both of the sick kittens went through a number of surgeries to prevent eye infections.
The rescue found Mogwai was completely blind, but Buddha could see out of one eye. He quickly began acting as a seeing-eye cat for his brother.
The brothers spent about a year with Inner City Strays. By the time they were around a year old, they were healthy, happy, and ready for their forever home! Thankfully, the perfect parents came along: a young couple who were looking for a very special cat.
The couple fell in love with the brothers and took them home. Mogwai quickly settled in, but it took Buddha a little longer to get comfortable.
“He was in a state of anxiousness, more so than his blind brother Mogwai,” Richard Parbury, the kittens’ new dad, told The Daily Telegraph. “He stayed in the bathroom in the carrier for about eight hours. Mogwai had already tracked the walls of the apartment 30 times. “When he had done the perimeter he ventured into the middle.”
After a few days, Buddha started relaxing. He and Mogwai fell in love with their new home and their parents.
Even though the cats are now older, they share the same bond they had when they were kittens. If blind Mogwai gets disoriented, he calls out to Buddha, who helps him find his way.
Buddha doesn’t just help Mogwai—Mogwai has also come to Buddha’s rescue before.
Once, Mogwai was cuddling with his mom, KA, in the living room before she went to work. Suddenly, Mogwai jumped out of KA’s arms and ran into the kitchen. There, he started headbutting Buddha in the back. KA didn’t understand what he was doing at first, but then she realized Buddha was choking on a plastic lid. She quickly dislodged the lid from Buddha’s throat, saving his life.
“We were blown away. How did Mogwai know, from one room away, that Buddha was in trouble?” Parbury said. “They share some sort of crazy connection that goes much deeper than just brothers.”
Now, Mogwai and Buddha spend most of their time napping together or with their parents. Their parents share the cats’ adventures on their Instagram page. The two cats don’t realize there’s anything different about them.
Mogwai and Buddha are two incredible cats who won’t let anything stop them from living their best lives! These sweet twin brothers always have each other’s backs. If you’d like to see more photos of Mogwai and Buddha, check out their Instagram page.
